May 14, 2023 Sunday Post 7

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! I hope today brings you joy.

And love and comfort to those who have lost a child, or a mother; to those whose relationships with their mother or their child are or were difficult, estranged, or nonexistent; to those longing to become or to have been mothers who have not been able to. If today is hard for you, whatever the reason, I’m sending you hugs.

Last Week

In real life: I’ve been settling in at home, unpacking and doing laundry and so on. I am back to walking regularly, either on the treadmill or outdoors, depending on the weather. The weather has been lovely most days this week, so I have enjoyed my outdoor walks amid the trees and birdsong. I’m doing between a mile and a mile and a quarter per day (although I missed Friday and Saturday), and I’m hoping to work up to two miles.

I’m also working on on the current index. And I have been getting things organized for our fiber guild’s Tour de Fleece team for July. The monthly Guild meeting was yesterday, so I spent Friday preparing the slides for it.

Writing accountability: I wanted to get back to writing this month, after several months of not writing, but so far, I haven’t been good about making the time. I’m starting to feel the tug back to it, though.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I read Old as the Hills by Celia Lake, which counts toward the COYER “Catch Up/Finish a Series” readathon. I finished The Sweetheart List (Jill Shalvis; review copy) and started The Sinister Booksellers of Bath (Garth Nix; review copy), both of which also count for the readathon. This week, I’ll also read Murder at the Royal Botanic Garden (Andrea Penrose), the 5th Wrexford & Sloane mystery. I’m buddy-reading it with Sophia Rose — yet another for the readathon.

I’m still in the middle of The Lord of Stariel (A.J. Lancaster; it’s one of my #23in2023 books), but I’m holding off until the readathon is finished.

Listening to: I put Rosamunde Pilcher’s The Empty House on hold while I was away, and I’m continuing to let it rest for the time being. It’s a quiet book, so it’s not great for fast-paced walking, and besides, I need to listen to Hammered (Kevin Hearne) before next Sunday. It’s book three in the Iron Druid readalong. I thought I had missed the chat, but it was rescheduled for this coming Sunday, so I have only a week to finish it. And of course, I am still listening to Season 4 of the Writing Excuses podcast occasionally.

Playing (occasionally): Wordle, the NYT Spelling Bee, and Pokemon Go.

Watching: mostly Nature documentaries this week.

I’m excited that next week may work better for the chat. There’s much to discuss for this one. I was only gone 2 nights and I feel there’s a lot to do. I can only imagine for you. I have added incentive for walking more to see the cygnets. Happy Mother’s Day Kara!

That’s so cool that you have cygnets along your walk! What a joy to be able to watch them grow into beautiful swans. Our lake has no swans, and the ducks haven’t returned since the lake was drained. I miss them… especially the white one that everyone called Aflack. (The dam leaked in December 2021, and the lake had to be drained to repair it. Repairs were finished around a year ago, and the lake is almost back to its normal level.)

We do occasionally see a bald eagle near the lake (which across the street from us, but not visible from the house.) But we see them more often in fall or winter, when the tree branches are bare. The eagles don’t nest near our lake; there aren’t enough fish in it. But there’s a state park and eagle sanctuary about 10-12 miles from us, and now that they have made a comeback, eagles nest along both rivers that border our county, so it’s not that unusual to see them around here. Breathtaking, though!

There’s nothing quite as nice as getting settled back home. I hope you are getting some relaxing time and enjoying your walks. I have The Sweetheart List on my reading list for the end of the month and am so looking forward to it. I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day and are having a relaxing week.

I love getting outdoors for my walks too! The weather and flowers have been gorgeous! I need to catch up with the read-along and finish Hammered. I listened to it but it’s been years. I have The Sweetheart List as well and I’m looking forward to it. Hope you enjoyed it. Have a wonderful week!

Happy Mother’s Day to you (belated). Summertide looks nice. And I hope the writing goes well for you in the coming days. I have felt the bug myself lately and it’s been so long. I guess sometimes there’s a season for these things. 🙂
