May 28, 2023 Sunday Post 7

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

Last Week

In real life: My week has been indexing, and more indexing, and somehow still not enough indexing. (In other words, I’m working hard and still falling behind.)

As a result, there have been very few walks, not much time for reading, and no time for writing, which is not good for either my health or my spirits. (And I’m missing out on the great weather!) There has also been a bit too much stress-snacking.

Despite all this, I’m really enjoying this project. It’s a fascinating subject, and I’m learning a lot about several subjects I knew almost nothing about before now. I can’t get specific for reasons of confidentiality, but it’s a rather specialized art history book, with a focus on an era and culture that I’m unfamiliar with.

If you are celebrating Memorial Day weekend (in the US), I hope you have a good weekend. While I can’t really take much time off, I will be thinking of our fallen veterans, and of those who fought or served and made it home.

Looking Ahead

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished Murder at the Royal Botanic Gardens (Andrea Penrose), the 5th Wrexford & Sloane mystery, which I buddy-read with Sophia Rose. I needed a little break from new books when work got overwhelming, so I reread The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches (Sangu Mandanna), which I absolutely loved last year, but which (to my shame) I never got around to reviewing. I also started Psyche and Eros (Luna McNamara; ARC), but wasn’t in the right mood, so I switched to Gryphon in Light (Mercedes Lackey; ARC.)

Eventually, I’ll get back to The Lord of Stariel (A.J. Lancaster; it’s one of my #23in2023 books.)

Listening to: Tricked by Kevin Hearne. It’s book four in the Iron Druid readalong, and I only have a week left to finish it. (I’ll have to toggle between reading and listening again, since I’m faster with reading.) After that, I need to get back to The Empty House by Rosamunde Pilcher, and to Season 4 of the Writing Excuses podcast.

Playing (occasionally): Wordle, the NYT Spelling Bee, and Pokemon Go.

Watching: We have one more episode of Picard Season 3 to see, but I have been working late most evenings, and haven’t wanted to see it too close to bedtime. (I tend to process movies, shows, and even books in my dreams… or nightmares.)

I’m hoping to listen to the first Andrea Penrose book in June. I’ve heard such great things about all of her books! The Secret Society of Irregular Witches is on my TBR. I’ve heard such wonderful things about it. Hopefully you’ll come up for air with the indexing and be able to get some relaxing in this week. Have a great week!
