The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!
This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
The Past Week
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you had a good Thanksgiving, if you celebrate it. If you don’t, I hope you had a lovely week.
In real life: I got my first shingles vaccine on Sunday, and it just flattened me. I spent Monday in bed with a fever, so achy I could hardly move. By Tuesday morning I felt a little better, and by Wednesday morning I was back to normal. It wasn’t fun, but it was totally worth it. Both my parents had shingles years ago, and a day or two of feeling yucky is nothing to what they went through. My dad still has nerve pain in his back, nearly a decade later. I’m so glad there’s a vaccine now.
Wednesday, I made the corn pudding (my MIL’s recipe) and the sweet potato casserole (my own recipe) and baked the (frozen) pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. We cooked the rest of the meal on Thanksgiving Day, and it was delicious, as always. We’ll be eating the leftover for days, which is helpful because I have a lot to do this week.
On Wednesday, I also got a new indexing project from an author who is a delight to work with. I’ll have to work several hours a day over vacation to get it done by the deadline, but if I get a good start this week, it should be doable without stressing too much. But I have a lot of Christmas shopping and packing to do this week, too, so we’ll see how it goes.
5 Good Things:
- I’m really glad I got my shingles vaccine. (I will schedule the second one for January or February.)
- Thanksgiving dinner was delicious! And I enjoyed the excuse to use our good china, crystal, silverware, and a few heirloom pieces from our families.
- This indexing project is fun! An interesting subject, and it’s pretty straightforward.
- I’m incredibly thankful for good medical insurance, which covered a lot of the cost of my ablation.
- I made a good start on choosing Christmas gifts.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching (since 7/14/2024)
Reading: I couldn’t read much on Monday and Tuesday, so I didn’t complete as many books as usual this week. I finished Mrs. Pollifax and the Second Thief by Dorothy Gilman, and read the next book in the series, Mrs. Pollifax Pursued. I didn’t have a copy of the next book in the series, so I read The Stolen Apocalypse, a prequel to Jacquelyn Benson’s new series.
Listening to: Arrow’s Flight by Mercedes Lackey, read by Christa Lewis. I also listened to the Fated Mates “Best Romances of 2024” podcast episode.
Watching: Star Trek: Next Generation, Season 1. And we watched a few episodes of Late Night with Stephen Colbert as well.
Playing: The usual games: Pokemon Go and several NYT word games (Wordle, Connections, Strands, and the Spelling Bee) as well as NYT Sudoku. I also played some Wingspan on Steam.

It’s been awhile since I had my Shingles vaccines but I don’t recall any side effects. I generally don’t have any side effects to any vaccines though. The RSV one this year made me feel tired and achy for a day though. I’m glad you had such a yummy and pleasant Thanksgiving. I don’t try to buy much for Christmas because we buy so much when we need it or there is a good deal. I read all the Mrs. Pollifax books from the library probably 30 years ago now. I get almost everything like that from the library. If it’s popular enough they usually have it. Although I have noticed recently they may only have the most recent couple books in a long running series.

I should probably look into getting my Shingles vaccine shots. Ugh. I don’t always respond well to shots, but you’re right, it is better than getting Shingles. And good luck with your new indexing project. I’m glad it’s a fun one. 😀

I’ve had a half dozen vaccines in the last year, and I’m glad that I got every one. I know many people who were very sick from the things that the vaccines now prevent.
Sometimes we think about watching Star Trek: The Next Generation from the beginning.

I love the Mrs. Pollifax series and need to finish it though I will be sad when I’ve read them all. I made my husband get his shingles vaccine series as soon as he was old enough because my grandmother had shingles years ago and it was rough. He got and a covid vaccine on the same day and he was wiped out the day after but it’s definitely worth it. I hope you have a wonderful week!
