The Past Week
In real life: On Memorial Day, Robin and I went to a farewell party for their church’s fabulous organist, who is moving out of state for her husband’s job. On Wednesday, we had choir practice for Thursday’s Ascension Day service. Unfortunately, we missed the service itself because Robin’s garage door chose the exact moment of our leaving to break rather spectacularly; it’s currently wedged diagonally in the opening. That was enough excitement for the week; the rest of it was spent quietly (but frantically) working, and reading when I should have been sleeping.
5 Good Things:
- Thankfully, the garage door did not harm anyone when it broke, and we had just taken the car out.
- The repair people are coming to fix the garage door (if possible) early this week.
- One of my grandkitties snuggled up with me for half the night on Monday night. So sweet!
- We had dinner over at my sister’s last night.
- We were able to work out a way to get to the airport next Thursday.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching
Reading: I finished rereading Eclipse by Celia Lake (another of her Albion novels), and followed it up with Tea and Meetings and With All Due Speed (both are short novella-length sequences of extra scenes related to Eclipse), as well as Unexplored Territory (no cover photo), a novelette-length series of extra scenes for On the Bias, which I read a week or two ago. I then went on to reread Lake’s Winter’s Charms, a collection of three novellas, one of which is a direct sequel to Eclipse. I also caught up on some of the Patreon-only extras that go with Celia’s books Grown Wise and The Magic of Four, which made me decide to read Grown Wise again even though I read it only a few weeks ago. (What can I say; her books are really comforting and I’m very swamped with work right now.)
When I wasn’t immersed in Lake’s Albion books and stories, I also continued reading Dangerous Books for Girls: The Bad Reputation of Romance Novels Explained, by Maya Rodale and Love’s a Witch by Tricia O’Malley (ARC.)
Listening to: I finished The Sinister Booksellers of Bath by Garth Nix, which I have read but not listened to before. Then I started One Fell Sweep by Ilona Andrews, for the Edge/Innkeeper Read-Along. I am a bit ahead on the reading for the read-along, and a bit behind on the reviews.
Watching: We saw the first two episodes of The Residence over at my sister’s house on Sunday. I’ll definitely be finishing that one! Robin and I watched an episode of Lower Decks, and started watching Star Trek: The Voyage Home (Robin’s first time seeing it; I’ve seen it at least 6 or 7 times, if not 10 or 12.) And last night at my sister’s, we watched The First Wives Club, which was dated but funny, and had some good performances by Diane Keaton, Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn, and Maggie Smith. I hadn’t seen it before.
Playing: Wordle, Connections, Strands, Spelling Bee, and Sudoku (all from the NYT.) Wingspan, both online and in person.

Audiobooks: Grandmaster: Twenty-Five Years of Tales. This is a special edition digital audiobook, a stretch goal for a hardcover special edition I backed; the hardcover is still in the production phase so I haven’t received it yet. (Goodreads has made an exception to its rules about subscription-only titles being “nonbook items”, now allowing Kickstarter publications, but the people that organized this project on Ms. Lackey’s behalf chose to go directly with Backerkit rather than going through Kickstarter, so there is and probably will be no Goodreads page for this book.)

Oh no about the garage door but glad you got the car out before it broke. Hopefully it will be an easy fix. I’m much more of a dog person but there is something so soothing and comforting about having a cat to snuggle with! I hope you’re having a great week!
