Sunday Post – 6/15/14

June 15, 2014 Sunday Post, week in review 28

The Sunday Post is a meme hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  It’s a chance to share news, a post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Last Sunday’s concert was amazing! What a treat to be able, in our semi-rural community, to sing a magnificent Haydn mass with a professional chamber ensemble and terrific soloists!  It went very well, thanks to our wonderful director, and I was still on cloud nine when I woke up on Monday.

We’ve got family coming to visit this week – both of my husband’s siblings and their families. I’m really looking forward to seeing them, but there’s a lot to do to get ready! Robin and I have been cleaning and decluttering all week. We’ll spend a few nights here with one family, then all meet the other in the mountains for about 5 days before returning here. Mr. Bookwyrm’s siblings live in Texas and Minnesota, and their kids are scattered all over the country, so this is the first time we’ll all been together since my mother-in-law’s death over two years ago.

I’m not sure how good the internet service is where we’ll be staying, so next weekend’s posts may be either late or sketchy, but I should be back up and running by Monday. ETA: Turns out there’s little to no internet where we’re going (and I don’t have a smart phone, and anyway the cell phone reception is spotty, too.)  So I will probably be incommunicado for much of this coming week.  I’ll try to catch up on comments etc. the following week!

Last week on the blog:

The coming week:

  • Tues. 6/10/14:  Top Ten Books on My Summer TBR List – Top Ten Tuesday
  • Wed. 6/11/14: Waiting on Wednesday
  • Fri. 6/20/14: Review: The Promise (Robyn Carr)
  • Sat. 6/21/14:  News & Notes – 6/21/14 ETA: There’s little to no wireless where I’ll be staying this weekend, and News & Notes can’t really be prepared 5 or 6 days in advance, so I may have to skip it this week. I’m sorry!

Have fun with your family. The weekend in the mountains sounds heavenly! Oh, and I’m so glad your concert went well. It’s wonderful to have a group to sing with…especially such wonderful music!

All the books you got for review look very good. I’ll look forward to your reviews. Have a great week!

I’m looking forward to seeing them all, and having a weekend away — apparently, away from the blog, too, as it turns out there’s no internet where we’re staying. Oh, well, more time for family and for reading! Have a great week, Jan!

I can’t wait to see what you thought of House of the Four Winds. I almost requested that one but decided against it. I’m feeling a bit of pressure to get through the ones I already have. I need to back off a little. I did get Code Name Verity but didn’t feature it since I already have a copy of it. I’m excited to see what the narration is like for that one.

I hope you guys have a good visit with Mr. Bookwyrm’s family. Sounds like you will, but I completely understand when you say there’s a lot that you need to do before they get there. 🙂 Have a good week!

I’m trying to cut back on requesting books, too, but I couldn’t resist The House of the Four Winds, mostly because it’s Mercedes Lackey and I’ve always loved her books. (Well, most of them.)

We spend all day yesterday and today cleaning and decluttering, and I’ve still got a lot to do tomorrow. Still, the house looks a lot better already!

Looks like you’re going to have a great happy family gathering week ! Eric Hill has died ? I didn’t know, I used to read his books to my daughters when they were little.
    Enjoy your week !

  4. Berls

I just finished all my in-law visiting and I know it can be so much fun, but also stressful! How great that so many of you can be together again though, and not for a funeral this time! Have a great time 🙂

  5. Rita_h

Congrats on your wonderful concert! It must have sounded wonderful. There is something so emotional about a church choir singing in harmony.
Sounds like a busy week ahead. I know from my experience that while it is fun and all to have relatives visit, that it is also stressful and a lot of work to prepare for it. Make time to enjoy your family and leave the dishes in the sink 🙂
I am interested in reading The Beekeepers Ball.

    • Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

Thanks, Rita! I had a great time with the family, talking and playing games and even taking a short hike… but I didn’t get a lot of blogging done, including replying to comments. My apologies; I’m trying to make up for it now.

Again I forgot to add my sync haul..LOL Have fun with family, it sounds like it will be a blast and I love getting together with family. Enjoy!

  7. Katherine P

Have a great vacation! It sounds like fun to have all the family together. I enjoyed your review on the Macomber book and am looking forward to the review on Carr’s book. She’s one of those authors I’ve seen everywhere but haven’t picked anything up by her yet. I’ve read and loved The Hiding Place but I’m curious to find out how it does in audiobook form. Have a great week!

    • Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

Thanks, Katherine! I’m looking forward to listening to The Hiding Place. It’s one of those books I’ve been meaning to read for decades and have never gotten around to. Sorry it took me so long to reply – having visitors really cut into my free time, but it was wonderful to see them all!

    • Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

I’ve heard terrific things about that book. I can’t decide whether to read it or listen to it – it will probably depend on my mood when I get around to it. Sorry it’s taken me so long to reply — I’ll pop over for a visit soon!

Mercedes Lackey has another series? Yikes. She keeps busy. I hope enjoy your family time; it is a lot of work but usually worth it.

    • Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

Maybe too busy? I do enjoy her books but I feel as though the quality isn’t what it used to be. And speaking of too busy, the family visit was wonderful but wow, I’m behind on everything from laundry to blogging – and definitely behind on replying to comments. My deepest apologies, and I’m working hard to get caught up!

  9. Peggy Farooqi

I haven’t tried knitting toys yet, not sure if I could manage? I’m good with straightforward things, but also managed to figure out socks which I now love to knit.
Have a great vacation and Happy Reading.
    My Sunday Post is here

    • Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

All the toys in this book are knit flat, so while there are a lot of seams, there’s probably not anything too terribly tricky. Although knitting in the round isn’t hard, either, and if you can manage socks you can probably manage a lot of things. I love knitting socks, too!

As I’ve said to everyone else, I’m really sorry it’s taken me so long to answer your comment. It’s been a very busy couple of weeks, but hopefully I’m close to caught up now.

  10. Angela's Anxious Life

The fact that you are going somewhere with no internet cell phone is great! I went to Yellowstone last year and we didn’t get any reception.. or TVs and I thought it was wonderful to be honest. Enjoy your time with family!

    • Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

It was great — both being unplugged and being with family. Though I did manage to find some internet for a little while on Friday, just to get Sunday’s post out. But now I’m way behind and scrambling to catch up. So please accept my apology for not answering your comment sooner!
