Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/meme now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. The meme was originally the brainchild of The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is New-to-Me Authors I Discovered in 2024.
Ten New-to-Me Authors I Discovered in 2024
To tell the truth, I wasn’t very adventurous with my reading in 2024. I did a lot of rereading and a lot of reading new releases by authors I love. I only read 14 new-to-me authors all year (a couple more if you count a few short stories.) Still, all of them were fun and/or interesting, and I will be following up on several of them to see what else they write (or have written.)
In alphabetical order by author. Audiobooks are pictured below Kindle and print books. Bolded titles link to my review.
- Roma Agrawal – Nuts & Bolts: Seven Small Inventions That Changed the World in a Big Way (audio)
- E. B. Asher – This Will Be Fun
- Jill Bearup – Just Stab Me Now
- Nancy Marie Brown – Ivory Vikings: The Mystery of the Most Famous Chessmen in the World and the Woman Who Made Them (audio)
- Ally Carter – The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year
- Sarah Beth Durst – The Spellshop
- Elizabeth Everett – The Love Remedy
- Claire Trella Hill – When a Dragon Comes Courting
- Julie Leong – The Teller of Small Fortunes
- Lulu Miller – Why Fish Don’t Exist: A Story of Loss, Love, and the Hidden Order of Life (audio)

This Will Be Fun sounds like a really good one!
Anne - Books of My Heart
The only one I’ve read there is Julie Leong and I love The Teller of Small Fortunes too.

Before reading Just Stab Me Now, I do recommend watching Jill Bearup’s “Fantasy Heroine” series of short videos. They’re a lot of fun, and the book will make so much more sense if you have seen them (even though she does deviate from the original plot when the novel calls for it.) Also, the usual caveats about first-time and indie writers; it’s fun, but it’s a little unpolished at the beginning, before she hits her stride.
