The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
The Past Week
In real life: Our Easter was quiet but enjoyable. I made several of our traditional favorites, but tweaked several of the recipes to be healthier in one way or another, and they tasted pretty close to normal. My 1-layer carrot cake (half the usual recipe) was good, and the low-sugar cream-cheese buttercream frosting was yummy and not too sweet.
I attended the American Society for Indexing’s virtual conference on Friday and Saturday. The rest of the week has been work and trying to catch up on some other things. We also got in more walking this week. I can tell I’m getting stronger. Tuesday I actually walked twice, for a total of 3 miles. Friday and Saturday evenings, it rained, so I made do with a short walk on the treadmill.
The best news of the week is that my former private high school (and childhood home) will NOT close at the end of this term! A coalition of alumni, parents, and friends of the school have come up with enough money in donations, pledges, and guarantees to convince the Board to keep the school open through June 2028. The hope now is to continue to raise funds to create an endowment large enough to keep the school going for the long term.
5 Good Things:
- The news that my high school alma mater is not closing makes me incredibly happy—so happy I cried, in fact.
- We walked 3 evenings this week, enjoying the birdsong and the cool breezes.
- The indexing conference was quite good, with interesting presentations and lively discussions.
- I have managed not to binge all the Easter chocolate.
- Several very kind authors wrote me lovely, warm notes on their Discord server, encouraging me to get back to my writing. (I haven’t done so yet, but I feel more energized, and I plan to dive back into writing as soon as I finish my current freelance job.)

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I reread Closer to the Chest (Mercedes Lackey; reviewed in 2018), as well as Forged in Combat by Celia Lake. I continued reading Knave of Diamonds by Laurie R. King, and started The Library Game (Gigi Pandian); I hoped to finish both for the COYER Mystery Readathon that ends today, but I’ll be lucky to finish just one in time.
Listening to: I continued listening to The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley (borrowed from Hoopla.) I’m also still listening to Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer. It’s a book to savor and think about, not devour in large gulps.
Watching: Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 4.

Hallo, Hallo Lark,
Glad to hear your walks are going so well. I wish I could say walks here would be a benefit but with Spring there is pollen and with pollen that has its own set of heartache for Mum and I. It hasn’t been a good start to Spring for my family and I; at least not for health and wellness. I spoke a bit about it on my post today. Instead, I chose to focus on the stories which came by post and the stories I’m sorting out to read for Wyrd And Wonder – though I didn’t quite disclose that list yet (laughs) I did mention I was working on it!
May is a good month of renewal for me as a reader and I’m quite eager to get it all underway. Even moreso to get over this illness of mine and get back to work as I’ve been out five days now; though four officially. Ugh. Tomorrow, I return and I just hope I find the stamina to get through it.
Congratulations on your school being funded. Like you, I hope they can solve long-term finances and remain open. Especially as it sounds like there is a lot of community support for the school.

Oh I’m so excited that the school is staying open! I hope they are able to make progress on long term financial issues and this is never a threat again. I’ve been spending some time outside but haven’t been doing great on walking. Enjoy your reading! The Sherry Thomas book looks good! I will have to look for that one.
