Summary: September was kind of rough emotionally due to aging-parent issues. That, combined with over two weeks spent visiting both sets of parents (and other members of my family), affected my reading, both in terms of available time for reading and in my choice of books. I did a lot of rereading (for comfort and anxiety management), but I did manage to read a few new-to-me books as well.

I completed a total of 15 books in September, including three first-time reads (one ARC, one library book, and one preorder) and 12 rereads. I reviewed none of the books I finished this month. I did post one review for a book I read earlier this year. I had reviewed three of books I reread in previous years; the titles are linked above.

Challenges

Here’s the breakdown of my reading challenges this year so far:

  • Goodreads Challenge: 144/140. I finished the challenge! I’m debating whether to increase my yearly goal. I kept it low because I wanted to write more, but so far I haven’t been writing.
  • Audiobook challenge: Listened to 18/12; reviewed 5/12
  • COYER Out to Lunch challenge: Read 94/25; reviewed 20/25
  • Ilona Andrews series read-along: Read 6; reviewed 2 so far. (I skipped three of the Edge books. I’m caught up on reading the Innkeeper Chronicles, but need to write the reviews.)
  • Library Love Challenge: Read 18/12; reviewed 6/12
  • NetGalley & Edelweiss Challenge: Read 18/25; reviewed 8/25 (Reviews include 2 books read prior to 2025; I still have a lot of ARCs from this year to review.)
  • Robin’s Recs: Read 3/6; reviewed 1/6.

Other Goals and Resolutions

Writing: None.

Prioritizing reading and writing time over screen time: Um… not as much as I’d like.

Review more of the books I read: Well, this goal went quite badly this month.

Unpack and reorganize my book collection: Nope.

Catalog my books: Also nope. Physical books catalogued so far this year: 133 (a few of which I will probably prune from the collection.) Number is from August

True, and thank you for reminding me of that. I’ve done a lot more rereading this year. It’s one of my baseline responses to stress and anxiety, and it has been a stressful and anxious year (mostly in terms of the sociopolitical situation, tbh.)

Sorry to hear you had a difficult month in September, it can be hard when life gets in the way like that, but it looks like you still had a good month for books! I really want to read The Enchanted Greenhouse, I read The Spellshop and loved that!
If you’re interested, I’ve just started a Facebook group for book bloggers and I’ve love to have you there 🙂 https://www.facebook.com/groups/808515272126665
