The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
The Past Week
In real life: A busy week! I took 3 more boxes of books to the used bookstore and the library booksale. I kept working on cataloging and downsizing my book collection, and ordered some clear book jacket protectors for my older books with fragile dust jackets as well as for my signed books. I sold some of Robin’s old toys on Facebook Marketplace. We continued downsizing and began packing up some of the stuff in the basement and moving it to the storage unit. And we met with a lawyer to talk about estate planning.
We had the porch remodeled to match the back deck. Same bones and footprint as the original porch, but new Trex deck boards, rails, and trim instead of the old, weathered pressurized wood. The contractor and his team completed the work in a single day (Friday), and it makes the house look so much better! Today we will meet with another contractor to get a second opinion and estimate on the remaining work we need to have done to the rest of the house.
5 Good Things: I’m trying not to despair about the state of the world and our country, but it’s hard. Yet there are still moments of beauty, connection, and joy. The sight of a hawk soaring through the sky. A glimpse of shy periwinkles blooming in the shadow of the trees. A grandfather’s beaming smile as he explains that his wife loves to play tea party with their grandchildren. A woman’s delight that her special-needs son will love the sturdy dollhouse she’s buying from me. The comfort of falling asleep in my husband’s arms. Those moments, and the love, strength, and support of my family and friends, are what sustain my faith and my hope.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I’m still reading The Quiet Light (Casey Blair), the first book in the Sage’s Sanctuary series for which The Quiet Side was the prequel.
Listening to: I finished A Little Too Familiar by Lish McBride (and loved it!), then borrowed the second book in the series Rough Around the Hedges, from Hoopla so I could keep going. I have read both books before (as ebooks), but this was my first time listening to them. Unfortunately, I didn’t care for the male narrator for Rough Around the Hedges, so I’m not going to finish it in audio. (I might reread it on Kindle instead; we’ll see.) After setting RAtH aside, I started relistening to The Shadowy Horses by Susanna Kearsley (reviewed in 2018).
Watching: Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 7 (a rewatch); All Creatures Great and Small, Season 5; The Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert
Playing: I haven’t had much time for games, but I have managed a few short sessions of Wingspan (phone app), Winter Burrow (Steam), and Pokémon Go, plus an occasional NYT game: Wordle, Connections, Strands, Spelling Bee, or Sudoku.

For Review or Consideration

Many thanks to Bramble (Tor) for Sea of Charms, and William Morrow for Murder at the Grand Alpine Hotel!

Print: This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me (UK special hardcover edition with stenciled edges, which I ordered from Blackwell’s. It’s not due out in the US until 3/31/2026 and the UK on 4/02, but it arrived early, on 3/24.) The US edition is pretty, but this one is just gorgeous, and I couldn’t resist.

Kindle: The Queen Who Came In From the Cold; The Sun and the Starmaker; No Quarter
Ten Years Ago I Was Reading…
I saw this idea on Lisa Loves Literature, who got it from Musings of a Bookish Kitty (who I also follow.) I thought I would give it a try! I published these reviews 10 years ago, between March 23 and March 29, 2016.

Good work on the downsizing! Sounds like you’ve been hard at work.
I spotted The Sun and the Starmaker when I was browsing books this week and was a bit curious, but ended up not getting it — curious what you’ll think of it! Hope it’s fun.

oh that UK edition of This Kingdome Will Not Kill Me is gorgeous. I am just keeping from buying print books. I am so impressed with you doing the work to downsize things. My daughter has done well going through her clothes now too. She is letting go of many of her teen cloths as they are too small and she has reached her goal weight. Her boobs will not ever get smaller again as we say.

You’ve been so busy. We need to do a major declutter – but we’re waiting until we have a new garden room built in the summer so there’s somewhere to put everything while we’re emptying the loft and all the cupboards. I LOVE your copy of This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me. Have a great week.
Bree @ Bibliophilebree
Hope you have a great week!

I love your 5 good things…I need more of that too. Hope you have a lovely week!

I’m so excited about the Sarah Beth Durst book and very curious about the Lucy Foley interpretation of Miss Marple. I liked her short story in the Miss Marple book so I have hope. I forgot about that Connie Archer series! I think I was on that same book tour. That was a good story and one I haven’t completed even though I think I have most of the books. I should fix that! Have a great week!

Someone is going to love those books!
And, yeah, I struggle with feels of despair about the state of the world as well. You’re not alone.
