July 12, 2026 Sunday Post 8

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

I often also participate in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.

The Past Week

In real life: My dad is holding his own, for now. The new dishwasher was delivered last Sunday morning, and will be installed after the kitchen is painted. (Hopefully we’ll be ready for that soon.) The new refrigerator arrived on Wednesday. This weekend, we’re working on the kitchen/dining room, trying to finish packing up everything except what we need in the short term.

I finally got back to walking on the treadmill a few days this week. I’m very out of shape, but it feels good to be working to improve my fitness (a little at a time.) I hope I can keep it up. I finally got back to walking on the treadmill a few days this week. And I have been spinning for Tour de Fleece, a little each day.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished Remember That Day (Mary Balogh) and went on the the next book in the series, A Waltz to Remember (ARC), which comes out in October. I’m a bit disappointed in the cover, which looks as though it might be AI-generated. It lacks the depth and beauty and the emotional connection between the characters of the previous covers in the series. But the book itself is lovely so far. (I should mention a CW for the FMC’s negative feelings about her weight and build, although she works hard to overcome them and accept herself.)

Listening to: I finished The Perfect Poison, book #6 in the Arcane Society series by Amanda Quick/Jayne Ann Krentz, and started book 7, Fired Up.

Watching: Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 7 (a rewatch.) We also finished up National Treasure, which we started on July 4. And we watched Secrets of the Forest, a NOVA episode from last year about how protecting and expanding diverse forest ecosystems may help us combat climate change (and why monoculture tree plantations aren’t the answer.)

Ten Years Ago I Was Reading…

I saw this idea on Lisa Loves Literature, who got it from Musings of a Bookish Kitty (who I also follow.) I published this review 10 years ago this week, between July 6 and July 12, 2016.

Stay kind, hopeful, and steadfast… and may your books bring you joy this week!

I listen to audiobooks when I’m on the treadmill. I hope we can find a good place to put it in our new (as yet undiscovered) house. It’s great for days when the weather isn’t conducive to walking outside. Right now we are under heat advisory, with temperatures in the mid- to upper-90s (Fahrenheit) and high humidity making it feel like 108-109. Much better to use the treadmill in the nice cool basement!

Thanks; I’ve heard good things about both books, too!

I think you’re wise to take it easy while getting into shape. I also need to regain my fitness and now we’ve almost finished our major house renovations and I don’t have to stay in for workmen – I should be able to join a couple of classes. Have a great week.

We’re working on getting the house ready to sell, so I understand about having to stay home for contractors! I’m glad we have a treadmill, as I certainly won’t have time to go to a gym until after we move and get settled in. And that timeline is very up-in-the-air at this point.

That’s one good reason to have a dog—they get you outside for walks! (Not that we have ever had a dog, and we probably won’t; I’m somewhat allergic. I can handle spending the afternoon at my sister’s house, but I’m not sure I could handle living with a dog full-time. I’m more of a cat person, anyway.)
