Book & Movie Announcements
- The second Fantastic Beasts movie will show the young(er) Dumbledore and Grindelwald… with Johnny Depp playing Grindelwald. (Vanity Fair) Interesting casting, given that I thought Dumbledore and Grindelwald were in their late teens or early twenties when they were friends — not their 50s.
- James Strong to direct Tolkien biopic (Variety)
Awesome Lists
- 10 of Our Favorite Literary TED Talks from 2016 (BookRiot) I haven’t watched all of these yet, but I hope to make time to over the next week or so! (BookRiot)
- Words in your ears: The ten best book podcasts (Guardian) If you read mainly literary fiction, there are some podcasts here that sound really good. Personally, I’m more into fantasy, mystery, etc., so I’ll probably just try Book Nerd, one of BookRiot’s podcasts.
Bookish Quote
That’s it for this week!
Rita @ View From My Books
Unbelievable about one person trying to affect all the local kids’ education… makes my blood boil. Then I’m appeased by the news of a film coming out about Tolkien, yay! That will be awesome.
Love that pic of the cat, above. Whenever I bring home library books or used book store titles my cats swarm around the stack, rub against it, and lay on them. Not just humans appreciate the scent of books, lol!

I love it that your cats greet your books that way!

Love the kitty picture. My cat’s and dog love to inspect my library hauls. It’s a shame about that history book possibly getting banned, banning books just makes me angry and mad and I am SO HAPPY that there’s a Tolkien biopic coming out! Also Johnny Depp as Grindelwald? Really? He wouldn’t be my first choice. Thanks for the bookish update Lark!

My cats usually sniff around any new book acquisitions, too, especially older/used/library books. Banning books is just wrong, especially when they are intended to educate kids on history as in this case. I agree that I wouldn’t cast Depp as Grindelwald. I wonder who they’ll cast as Tolkien?

I am not going to read that article about the Tennessee mother as it will just piss me off. Censorship and banning infuriate me.
On a happier note, I’m looking forward to the Tolkien biopic. That will be worth a trip to the theater. 🙂
Love the cat pic and so true!

Censorship, particularly in education, gets my back up too. Failing to educate our kids about the facts of history and current religio-gepolitics (I made that word up, but hopefully it gets the point across) will only result in more international and internal problems down the road.
Definitely looking forward to the Tolkien biopic! I’m not sure if I’ll see it in theatres or wait until it’s on Netflix or DVD, though.

You have some great finds here. I’m supposed to be doing a blog post, but may just spend the morning listening to TED talks, etc.
Cats are so (not) helpful, both for reading and writing.

I’m saving up some of those TED talks for when I have more time free. They’re almost always really good.
