2025 Reading Challenges: COYER Out To Lunch

I’m signing up for the COYER reading challenge again this year: COYER Out To Lunch, hosted by Berls, Michelle, and Lillian. COYER has been simplified for 2025: a year-long reading challenge (no seasons) with a single, basic set of rules. The hosts are feeling a little overwhelmed and burnt out, so they decided to take a breather this year.

This is one of my favorite challenges, as much for the community of readers and bloggers who participate as for the challenge itself. It began as a challenge to “Clear Out Your E-Reader,” and this year, it returns to its roots, more or less.

My goal is to read and review at least 25 qualifying books in 2025.

The “and review” part is important; I don’t have a problem reading enough books, but getting reviews written is a real challenge for me. I realize this goal is pretty low given my reading speed, so I may revise it upward during the year. I don’t want to set it too high, since that tends to lead to me feeling intimidated and giving up.

Rules:

Read free or nearly-free e-books and audiobooks.

  • “Nearly free” means e-books that cost under $5.00 US and audiobooks that cost under $7.50 US (or the equivalent in your currency.)
  • “Free” includes review books, tour books, NetGalley, Edelweiss, etc.
  • Library ebooks and digital audiobooks will count – just no physical books.
  • The challenge does NOT include books from paid subscription services like Kindle Unlimited, Amazon Prime Books, and Audible Plus Catalog. It also doesn’t include books you borrowed from a friend.

Sign up and post your participation.

Write a post announcing your participation (this post counts as mine) and link it on the sign-up linky on the COYER Out To Lunch sign-up page.

Check in with your progress.

The hosts will have three check-ins throughout the year so you can link up any progress, either in a post or a challenge page (however you keep track.) The check-in posts and links will occur in the months of March, June & September. (I am assuming there will also be a check-in at the end of the year.)

COYER Community

I will also be participating in the COYER Community on Facebook. There are optional readathons and fun ways to interact with other readers/bloggers. You can read more about that on the COYER Out To Lunch sign-up page.
