Reading Challenges I’m Joining For 2024
I plan to do several of same the year-long challenges I did last year, but I’m not going to add any new ones. I am also dropping two of last year’s challenges: the #ReadChristie challenge, and the self-imposed #24in2024 challenge. It turns out that I am too much of a mood reader for either of those to work for me. Plus, I want to focus on other things this year.
What other things? Well, I plan (hope?) to be more consistent about writing in the coming year, and that’s going to take time away from reading.
2024 Goodreads Challenge
My Goodreads Challenge goal for 2024 is to read 125 books. My goal last year was 150 books. I blew past that number in November, mainly due to a lot of binge-rereading. But I’m actually decreasing my Goodreads goal for 2024 because I want to spend more time to writing in 2024, and also because some of the books I read this year will be for research (which goes more slowly because I’m reading for information and taking notes.)
The Backlist Reader Challenge 2024
I host The Backlist Reader Challenge 2024 right here on this blog. So of course I have to participate in it! To be honest, I haven’t done very well the last several years, at least with the reviews. I hope to do better about reviews in general in 2024… but see my earlier comment about writing more (fiction) this year. Therefore, I’m setting my challenge goal even lower this year: just 12 books from my TBR that were published before 2023… but I have to review them, not just read them. Surely I can manage one per month!
2024 Audiobook Challenge
The 2024 Audiobook Challenge is hosted by Kimberly at Caffeinated Reviewer. This year, I’m going for the Stenographer level of 10-15 audiobooks. I almost made it last year, and I hope to do better this year. Rereads count, and audiobooks can also count toward other challenges. As with every challenge on this page, you can read the full list of rules at the challenge title link.
2024 Library Love Challenge
The 2024 Library Love Challenge is hosted by Anne at Books of My Heart and Angel of Angel’s Book Nook. My goal is the Dewey Decimal level: 12 library books. (This is the minimum level.) They can be any format, including ebooks or audiobooks, and they can count toward other challenges as well.
Netgalley and Edelweiss Reading Challenge 2024
The 2024 Netgalley and Edelweiss Reading Challenge is hosted by Yvonne at Socrates’ Book Reviews. The challenge is to read and review your NetGalley and Edelweiss ARCs, no matter how old or new they are. I really need this! I am way behind on my ARCs, and my NG rating is down to 52%. However, I don’t want to set my goal too high, and the Silver level (25 books) feels like too much of a stretch right now. So I’m keeping my goal achievable and going for the Bronze level (10 books). I hope to beat that by at least 5 or 10 more. If I’m doing really well at the mid-point of the year, I may increase my goal.
Yvonne posts a monthly link-up page, and the links are usually in her sidebar.
COYER Unwind 2024
I appreciate the friends I have made in the COYER community, so I’ll be doing the COYER challenges again this year, beginning with COYER Unwind, Chapter 1: Winter Rules , which runs from January 1 through March 31, 2024. The Winter Rules are strict: only digital books count (ebooks or digital audiobooks), and only books that were free or nearly free (under $5 for ebooks, under $7.50 for audiobooks.) Library books or borrowed books don’t count, and neither do books that are “free” to read through a subscription service like Amazon Prime, Kindle Unlimited, or Audible Plus. My goal is to read and review 9 qualifying books for Chapter 1… an average of 3 per month. They can also count toward any of my other challenges.
You can see the full rules for Chapter 1, as well as the dates and rules for Chapters 2, 3, and 4, by clicking the title link above.
Anne - Books of My Heart
These are great challenges. Good Luck to you and making your goals this year on these and with some writing.

That’s a lot of challenges. Best of luck with them all! At least there will be some room for overlap there.

I thought about cutting back even further, but I need the NG/Edelweiss challenge, and I’m likely to read both library books and audiobooks this year regardless of challenges, so I kept those in there. I do like it when a book counts for multiple challenges, and all of these challenges allow overlap, which is nice.

Good luck with all your 2024 reading challenges!
