The Past Week
In real life: Last Sunday, I had a good talk with my stepmom. Dad doesn’t have much to say on the phone anymore. My stepmom says that he is doing better since he as been on an antibiotic for an infection.
The rest of the week was busy: dealing with paperwork, posting stuff for sale or giveaway on Facebook, attending a virtual spinning meetup for Tour de Fleece, and packing up more stuff in the kitchen. Yesterday, Mr. Bookwyrm cleaned the top of the kitchen cabinets whilst I offered logistical support (fresh cleaning cloths etc.) from below, because I’m too short to reach the top of the cabinets even from a tall stepstool.
This afternoon, I’ll be winding up my annual Tour de Fleece participation by attending the final TdF meetup at the guild studio. I’m looking forward to spending a few hours spinning and talking with my friends.
5 Good Things:
- I got my wedding ring back from the jeweler, where it was being repaired.
- I walked a mile on the treadmill three times this week! It’s a start.
- I baked a delicious peach-blueberry cobbler.
- I sorted out a problem with my mail-order pharmacy and another problem with an online account that wouldn’t let me in.
- Both the air quality and the temperature were much better this week. We even had several days in the 70s, which was lovely!

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching
Reading: I finished The Oxford Guide to Scandal and Lies (Kate Westbury; ARC.) I read The Scargill Case Files, a short story in the Arcane Society series by Jayne Ann Krentz. After that, I started Murder on Threadneedle Street (ARC), the next book in Andrea Penrose’s Wrexford and Sloane historical mystery series. I also started The Faraway Inn by Sarah Beth Durst. So far, both are pretty good, but most of reading has been audiobook listening.
Listening to: I finished Burning Lamp, book #8 in the Arcane Society series by Amanda Quick/Jayne Ann Krentz. A week and a half ago, I had ordered a used CD copy of Midnight Crystal, book #9 in the series (written under her Jayne Castle pen name; it’s also book #7 in the Harmony/Ghost Hunters sci-fi series.) Unfortunately, it hadn’t arrived by the time I finished Burning Lamp, so I went on to book #10, In Too Deep. My order still hadn’t arrived when I finished that one, so I went to the Hoopla app and listened to After Dark, the first book in Castle’s Harmony series. (I did read a few chapters on my Kindle in the middle of the night, but I’m counting it as an audiobook because I listened to most of it.) When I finished that, I started After Glow (Harmony #2, the direct sequel), also from Hoopla. Good thing all of these books are rereads and most of them can stand alone, or I might be lost with all the hopping around!
Watching: We watched the second episode Once Upon a Time in Space (a 4-part documentary series on PBS), and several episodes of All Creatures Great and Small, season 6.

There was a big sale on cozy and cozy-adjacent fantasy from indie authors on Friday. I already owned eight of the 70 sale titles, but I picked up the last six on the the list above for 99 cents each.
Audiobooks: Midnight Crystal. (None of my libraries had a copy, and neither did Hoopla, so I tracked down a set of CDs online.)

Being 4’ 10” can really relate to not reaching the tops of my cabinets and it’s nice to have a tall partner for such things. Whenever I need my husband’s help with such tasks I tell him “I need your highness.” 😂 I really want to read The Faraway Inn, and I need to read way more from that author! The Oxford Guide to Scandal & Lies also sounds very intriguing!

I’ve got about 2 inches on you, but one of my nieces is about your height. I love your way of asking your husband for help. 😂 The Oxford Guide to Scandal & Lies was very good, and looks like the start of a new series. I’m still in the early chapters of The Faraway Inn, but it’s very good so far.
