The Past Week
In real life: I saw my eye doctor on Thursday. No prescription change (well, only minor tweaks that don’t require a new pair of glasses but will be in the record in case I break or lose my glasses.) And there’s no sign of macular degeneration or glaucoma. Huzzah!
I had a call from my stepmother. My dad’s confusion and dementia is getting worse, and he’s experiencing a lot of anxiety about it. He sleeps a lot during the day, and is sometimes wakeful and confused at night. I fear the time is approaching when we’ll have to put him in a memory unit, though heaven knows how we will afford it.
Prepping for our move: We met with our realtor yesterday… so we spent Thursday night and Friday (in my case) tidying and cleaning up for his visit. I even weeded the front and side beds—which needed it. While I was out there, our neighbor’s lawn service was at her house, so I went over and asked for a business card. Now we’ve signed the paperwork with our realtor, and the “Coming Soon” sign is up out front.
During the week, we donated several pieces of furniture that we aren’t taking with us. Mr. Bookwyrm packed up most of the photograph and art, both framed and unframed. There are a lot of unframed photos; one of our retirement projects will be sorting through them, pruning and scanning, and deciding how and if to display them. Meanwhile, I went through some clothing, including two boxes of baby clothes I had forgotten about. Most of it went to the thrift store, but I saved out a few cute things for our niece’s baby and our nephew’s children, if they ever have any. And I started packing up the books, which means I’m also back to putting dust jackets in mylar protectors—not all of them, because I don’t have time, but the ones that are damaged already (to protect from further damage), and the books that are precious to me.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching
Reading: I reread Whiskey Beach by Nora Roberts (reviewed 2016), and started rereading both Legacy (also Nora Roberts) and Once Upon a Marigold by Jean Ferris.
Listening to: I finished books #3 and #4 in Tamora Pierce’s Song of the Lioness quartet: The Woman Who Rides Like a Man and Lioness Rampant. Then I went on to relisten the next series set in the same world, the Immortals, starting with Wild Magic.
Watching: Aerial New Zealand

Ten Years Ago I Was Reading… (two-week version)
I saw this idea on Lisa Loves Literature, who got it from Musings of a Bookish Kitty (whom I also follow.) I didn’t publish any book reviews during this week 10 years ago, but I was getting ready to start a real-time reread of A Discovery of Witches, and I reviewed a movie.
