August 6, 2017 Sunday Post 30

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

Sunday Post

I’ve been doing the COYER Photo Challenge over on Instagram, and reblogging my photos on Tumblr. I don’t know if I’ll be able to keep it up through the whole month of August, though, because I’m headed out to New Mexico in a few weeks to visit Robin for her birthday and see my mom and stepdad and my and sister and her family, then up to Utah to see my dad, stepmom, and some of my cousins.

Mr. Bookwyrm and I went to the movies twice this week, once to see Wonder Woman—I loved it!—and once to see a screening of the Broadway stage musical Newsies, which was also excellent. Two dates in one weekend!

What I’m Reading/Watching

book cover: The Day of the Duchess by Sarah MacLean (book 3 of the Scandel & Scoundrel series)
book cover: Straight, by Dick Francis
Book cover: Copper Beach by Jayne Ann Krentz
book cover: Dream Eyes by Jayne ANn Krentz
book cover: Once Upon a Winter's Night by Dennis McKiernan

Reading: I’m still reading The Day of the Duchess (Sarah MacLean; ARC.) I finished rereading Straight (Dick Francis; own); my review will post Monday. I also reread Copper Beach (my review) and Dream Eyes (my review) by Jayne Ann Krentz. I liked Copper Beach better this time around, and bumped my rating from 2 stars to 3 stars. And I began rereading Dennis L. McKiernan’s Once Upon a Winter’s Night.

Listening to: I listened to a few Imaginary Worlds podcasts but haven’t started another audiobook yet. I also tried the Fiction Food podcast, but gave up after trying two different episodes; the hosts spend too much time talking about random stuff, and they’re sort of scattered in their presentation. I’ll stick to the website instead.

Watching: We watched the movie Sully, which my husband got for his birthday, about the airline captain who safely landed a plane on the Hudson. And we watched the first two Harry Potter movies in honor of Harry’s birthday.  Oh, and one more of the Father Brown mysteries. And we saw Wonder Woman and Newsies in movie theaters—not the movie Newsies, but the Broadway musical, filmed live and rebroadcast.

I love the Harmony books too! But there isn’t one coming this summer… and she hasn’t said anything about why, to my knowledge. I hope the series isn’t coming to a close.

I’m sure Robin is going to love your visit! What a trip you have planned – great visiting time. I still haven’t seen Wonder Woman. I do want to go see two movies, though. I loved Sully. I think Tom Hanks was a great pick for the film. Thank you so much for the love and support you’ve shown with everything going on with my dad (and The Man’s dad). It means a lot to me.

    • Lark_Bookwyrm

Tom Hanks was perfect for Sully, I agree. As for Wonder Woman, see it when you have time and feel up to it, and if that’s not until it comes out on DVD, it’s not the end of the world. You just keep taking care of yourself and the Man and remember you’ve got a lot of blogger friends sending you virtual hugs. Including me.

I really want to see Wonder Woman, but I’m waiting for it to hit the dollar movies. We actually went to a movie this week too – dollar movies – We saw Meagan Leavy and it was really, really good. Totally forgot about it when I wrote my Sunday post though :/

I’m trying to do the instagram challenge too. On one hand, I’m doing better than I’ve ever done in the past. On the other hand, I really question my ability to keep up.

Have a great week and happy reading 🙂

That’s a movie I hadn’t even heard of. I had to look it up! I’m glad you enjoyed it.

I think a lot of us start out strong with challenges of any sort, and then life gets busy and the challenge is no longer top priority. At least, that’s common for me. I missed today’s post, actually, but I’m hoping to do two tomorrow to make up for it.

  3. Stacy Renee @ Lazy Day Lit

We’ve been having a slow Harry Potter marathon all week here. Just can’t resist, and now my 2 year old knows who Harry Potter is beyond just seeing my Funko pops so that’s a plus! I’m really looking forward to reading them to her!
I hope you have a nice time in New Mexico! 🙂

We did a Harry Potter marathon (slowly, over 2 weeks) last November, beginning on Halloween, so I don’t think I’ll rewatch the whole series right now. But I did want to celebrate Harry’s birthday. 🙂

  4. Greg

Wow you have lots of traveling planned! Sounds great. It’s always nice to go visit family, especially when you don’t see them a lot. I have some relatives wh live out of state and it’s hard to see them more than once or twice a year.

I still have to see Wonder Woman, and I’ve been meaning to try the Imaginary Worlds podcast.

Nice round up of news this week also. That educational video game with Tyson/ Martin certainly sounds intriguing!

Greg, I think you’d love both Wonder Woman and the Imaginary Worlds podcast. Especially the latter. If you listen to it, see if you can download the early episodes from the website. It’s worth it!

  5. Kathy @ My Nook, Books & More

I’m also doing the COYER instagram challenge and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to complete it. We have some mini trips planned but I also am awful at remembering to take a picture daily lol. I hope you have a great trip and a great week!

Thank you; I’m looking forward to getting some stuff done around the house that I’ve been putting off while I was working so hard. 🙂

    • Lark_Bookwyrm

Thank you, Evelina! But I’m not leaving for a few weeks. I was just explaining why I won’t be able to do the whole month of the photo challenge. 🙂

    • Lark_Bookwyrm

Yes, the ending was lovely, with the actual people from the airplane. 🙂 I’m not leaving for a few weeks, but thanks for the good wishes, when I do!

  6. Aleen @ Lampshade Reader

Have fun on your trip to New Mexico! I loved it there; it’s so pretty and the food is awesome. Went to Taos to ski (which I’ve found is totally not my thing) LOL.

Date nights are great when you have time for them, so yay!

Hope you have a great week and enjoy your new books!

    • Lark_Bookwyrm

My folks moved out there almost 20 years ago; since then, we’ve visited quite a bit. My sister has been there even longer. I agree; it’s a beautiful state, especially the northern mountains. I’m looking forward to the trip (which isn’t for a couple of weeks yet) but sad that Mr. Bookwyrm can’t go.

Have a lovely week, and thank you for stopping by!

    • Lark_Bookwyrm

It really was! My favorite, too. Of course, the only other new-in-theaters movie I’ve seen this year is Beauty and The Beast, which I enjoyed very much, but it didn’t blow me away like Wonder Woman did.

  7. Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library

Enjoy your visit with Robin! Sounds like fun! I haven’t seen Sully yet but I want to and assume it’s good because of Tom Hanks! Is that man in anything that isn’t great? We watched Bridge of Spies awhile ago and really enjoyed it. I’m really looking forward to The Day of the Duchess and I’d love to do some reading on Krentz’s backlist. She has so many books under so many names! Have a great week!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Hanks in something bad. Of course, I haven’t seen all of his movies, either. But he’s a very good actor.

I don’t think I’ll ever get through all of Krentz’s backlist, but it’s been fun reading some of her older titles! Ditto Nora Roberts.
