The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!
This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it!
In real life: We had a whirlwind week-before-Christmas, juggling family time and Christmas shopping, wrapping, and cooking. Today we have two church services: the 4th Sunday of Advent service in the morning, and the Christmas Eve mass tonight. Robin, Mom, and I will be singing in the choir for both. In the afternoon, we’ll set out the farolitos in front of my parents’ house; it’s a tradition on their street, and people come from all over town to view them.
The blog: I just figured out how to choose the excerpt that WordPress puts in the post preview for each post. So instead of, for example, the text about what Sunday Post is, you will see the first bit of my actual post instead of the blurb about what the Sunday Post is. Why did it take me this long to figure this out?! It means an extra step when I’m writing a post, but it looks so much better and more interesting on the home page.

Anne - Books of My Heart
How lovely you are having all the family time and activities. I always enjoyed singing in a choir. I don’t know what farolitos are but our neighborhood does luminarias on Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas!

We have been having a wonderful time!
Faralitos is the preferred term here in northern New Mexico; in Albuquerque and central and southern New Mexico, as in many other parts of the country that have adopted this New Mexican custom (including your neighborhood), they are usually called luminarias. The local paper here wrote an article on the name “controversy” back in 2017.

I love luminarias. They’re so beautiful and really help bring the spirit of Christmas. I didn’t know they were also called farolitos. Thank you for bringing that to my attention!
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
