Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/meme now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. The meme was originally the brainchild of The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is The First 10 Books I Randomly Grabbed from My Shelf.
This wasn’t quite as easy as it sounds, because a lot of my books are still in boxes. So I decided to use a combination of my virtual “owned” shelf on Goodreads, and my physical TBR shelves (which are unpacked.) Since I own thousands of ebooks, I narrowed it down further by filtering my Goodreads “owned” shelf for “want to read,” thus eliminating books I have already read. Then I used a random number generator to pick twenty books from the Goodreads list and ten books from the physical shelf, before further narrowing it down (again, via random number generator) to ten books total. I figured that was about as random as I could get in the circumstances.
The First 10 Books I Randomly Grabbed from My TBR Shelves

- Death at a Scottish Wedding (Lucy Connelly)
- Lessons in Chemistry (Bonnie Garmus)
- The Richmond Thief (Lisa Boero)
- A Letter to the Luminous Deep (Sylvie Cathrall)
- The Gilded Wolves (Roshani Chokshi)
- The Rose Garden (Susanna Kearsley)
- The Raven Throne (Stephanie Burgis)
- A Darker Shade of Magic (V. E. Schwab)
- Once Upon a Tome (Oliver Darkshire)
- Magpie Murders (Anthony Horowitz)
One thing I discovered as I worked on this post is that I’m no longer as interested in reading some of my TBR books as I was when I bought them or was given them. In fact, I purged a few books from my physical shelves while I was at it, and there are some ebooks on my Goodreads “want to read” list that I’ll be moving to the “someday” list. (Not the ones above, though!) Which just goes to show that it’s a good idea to go through your shelves and TBR list now and then.

Rebecca @ Top 100 Books
I remember starting to read Lessons in Chemistry and thinking “Thank goodness I took a chance on this one.” It was listed as a Romance, but it is one of those all-of-life books.
Great list!

I fully agree that it’s a great idea to go through the TBR shelves every now and again. I try to do it at least once a year (end of year) to prepare for a “fresh start” in the new year… Though I’m not always the most successful at it 🤭 A Darker Shade of Magic is one of my all-time favourite series. I’m also hoping to read Lessons in Chemistry and Luminous Deep at some point this year. I hope you enjoy these whenever you get around to them!

Louise @ Foxes and Fairy Tales
A Letter to the Luminous Deep has such a stunning cover!
Yvonne @ Socrates Book Reviews
I need to really look through my TBR list and start cutting down. There are definitely books there that I’m no longer interested in. I haven’t read any of the books on your list. Lessons In Chemistry is on my wish list. I hope you enjoy your books when you get a chance to read them.

I like the sound of the Rose Garden. I’m trying to grow several roses from cuttings. I’m not very good at it!

I love your process of picking books! I like picking up books at random periodically because it’s a good way to mark books of my list if I decide don’t want to read them when I pick them. I see several on my TBR and I want to look up Once Upon a Tome.
Susan (Bloggin' 'bout Books)
I’m interested in the Connolly series and ONCE UPON A TOME. They sound like fun reads!
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

Once Upon a Tome was fun. I found the style similar to Terry Pratchett – aside from having no orangutans, Sotheran’s seemed not dissimilar from the Library in Discworld. And I got through Magpie Murders and enjoyed it, though puzzle mysteries often disappoint. Those two might be winners for you too!
