The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This Week

The weather here was wintry this week, but not nearly as bad as in most of the country. We got a little snow, mostly sleet and freezing rain. And our power stayed on, thank goodness. My heart goes out to all the people down in Texas, dealing with below-freezing temperatures, no electricity, frozen and bursting pipes, and in many cases, no water. I’m sure you’ve read the news stories; I also heard firsthand accounts from family and friends. (All of them are coping, though it hasn’t been easy.)

Yesterday, I partipated in a Zoom reading of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest with several college friends and their offspring and/or housemates. It was a lot of fun, both seeing my friends and getting to dabble in theater again. I’ve missed both.

Still no word from the Health Department on when we can get our vaccines, but we have confirmed we are on the list.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished Beach Read (Emily Henry, ARC) last Sunday. It’s one of the COYER Book Club books for February. I went on another rereading binge this week, finishing Black Hills by Nora Roberts before plowing through several Jayne Ann Krentz novels in a row: Light in Shadow, Truth or Dare, Eye of the Beholder (which I reviewed in 2016), and Trust No One. I’m currently working my way through the short stories in Last Writes by Catherine Aird (one of my Christmas gifts.) I still need to finish Wild Rain by Beverly Jenkins.

Listening to: I don’t think I’m going to finish The Library at the End of the World, at least not right now. It’s just not appealing to me, despite the Irish setting. But I listened to a number of podcasts this week, including some recent episodes from Smart Bitches, Trashy Podcast; Lingthusiasm; The Allusionist; and Side Door.

Watching: On Valentine’s Day, we watched one of our favorite rom-coms, The American President. Later in the week, we saw Get Smart (the movie, not the 1960s TV show.) And I watched more fiber-prep and spinning videos, partly for education and inspiration, and partly because I just enjoy watching people make art.

Playing: Carcassonne, Merge Magic, DragonVale, Pokemon Go, the NYT daily crossword and some of their other games. I particularly enjoy their Spelling Bee game.

    It’s so sad what happened down in Texas. I hope people are recovering now but yikes.

    I’ve been wanting to try Krentz’ books. Her new series looks good.

      I know. It’s really been tough for them.

      If you’re thinking of starting Krentz, I wouldn’t start with the Fogg Lake books, even though they are fun, because they appear to be adjacent to or derived from the Arcane Society novels (even though they don’t really mention Arcane.) So if you’re looking to try her paranormal books, go back and read the Arcane Society novels, which span all three of her pen names. OTOH, if you prefer straightforward romantic suspense without the psychic aspect, try River Road, Secret Sisters, All Night Long, Trust No One, or the Cutler, Sutter, & Salinas trilogy.

      It really was fun! I have missed live theater—watching it, directing it, and acting in it. Yesterday’s reading was a little taste of theater. Enjoy Beach Read—it was good!

    I can believe that Zoom reading of The Importance of being Earnest was a lot of fun! What a clever idea.

    Beach Read is high on my TBR list and I want to read it while it’s still summer here in SA. I also have The Library at the end of the world on my TBR, don’t know when I’ll get to it though.

      Beach Read was very good; I hope you enjoy it. I wish I liked The Library at the Edge of the World more. I’ll probably give it another try when I’m more in the mood for a slow-paced book, but it’s just not the right book for me right now.

      Well, I kind of wish we had gotten more snow, even a lot of it, instead of the ice… but I am very thankful we weren’t dealing with temperatures like the middle of the country had, nor with the power and water issues that Texas is struggling with.

    I’m glad you were safe and are on the vaccine list. I’m guessing it will be awhile since I’m in the last group even tho I’m old, I’m not old enough. I really enjoyed Beach Read! I actually started doing some knitting! I haven’t done any for a year. It’s a sweater for Lulu, of course. I haven’t knit one for her yet and hopefully I have translated the sizing and guage correctly. Happy Reading!

    I wasn’t in Texas but we froze up and have busted pipes here in Missouri. I am still out of water and probably will be all of this week like last week. Hopefully not more but we have to let the water dry up before my brother can get in there to fix out pipes. 🙁 I am not made for rustic living! We are running out of snow to melt for toilet water.
