May 3, 2026 Sunday Post 3

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.

The Past Week

In real life: Dad went home on Friday morning. Hopefully he will do OK at home. Work has continued on our house. The arborist came and removed several dead and dying trees. The contractors have mostly finished the outside and the landscaping, but still have a few bushes and small trees to plant. They fixed the leak in the basement (we think; we won’t know for sure until a few days of heavy rain.) They will be starting on the main floor on Monday, so we’re frantically clearing out Mr. Bookwyrm’s office this weekend.

I’m realizing that I need to prune a lot more stuff (including more books), and I’m really starting to panic: about getting rid of stuff, about packing stuff up, about finding an affordable house with enough space for the things we want to keep and the life we want to live, and about making the right financial decisions for our retirement. So basically about the whole process. I know we’ll be OK in the long run, but there’s a lot to do, and I’m overwhelmed.

Robin helped me figure out how to pack my more fragile books: upright, using a layer of bubble wrap and then yarn to fill in the space between the books and the top of the box. (Brilliant idea; why didn’t I think of that?)

4 Good Things:

  1. The outside of the house looks a lot better.
  2. We’re making progress on packing and downsizing. (Slow, but progress nonetheless.)
  3. I catalogued over 100 more books this week.
  4. We picked out the replacement light fixtures and ceiling fans, and had dinner at Panda Express afterwards.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished Sea of Charms (Sarah Beth Durst; ARC), which was absolutely charming. I’m halfway through Murder at the Grand Alpine Hotel (the new Miss Marple mystery by Lucy Foley; ARC.) I’m still reading This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me (Ilona Andrews) on both Kindle and audiobook—slowly, because I don’t have a lot of time. It’s really good, though!

Listening to: This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me by Ilona Andrews (alternating between listening and reading) and Smoke in Mirrors by Jayne Ann Krentz (reread; book reviewed in 2017.)

Ten Years Ago I Was Reading…

I saw this idea on Lisa Loves Literature, who got it from Musings of a Bookish Kitty (who I also follow.) I published this review 10 years ago, on April 29.

Stay kind, hopeful, and steadfast… and may your books bring you joy this week!
