June 30, 2024 Sunday Post 5

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.

The Past Week

In real life: I cooked a pork loin on Sunday, which fed us for half the week. I made a cake to celebrate Mr. Bookwyrm’s birthday. And I saw the OT again for my wrist. I have some exercises to do to try to release the nerves.

I am also spinning again, though not as much as I would like. Tour de Fleece started yesterday, so I will be spinning every day, at least 15 minutes, but on several different projects depending on where I am. My primary wheel doesn’t travel very well, so I have one project at home, another on my travel wheel, and a third that I’m trying to spin on a drop spindle.

Decluttering: I continued slowly moving books downstairs, either to shelves (for my more precious books) or in boxes.

Blogging: I finally got a few more reviews written.

Writing accountability: My minimum goal is an achievable 250 words every day (fiction or other creative writing; book reviews for the blog don’t count.) I wrote 5 days this week. Word counts for the week: 3402 words of fiction* (my goal was 1,750 total for the week.) I am using 4theWords to gamify my writing sprints.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading and Listening: I reread Hideaway by Nora Roberts, and then read Wait Until Midnightt by Amanda Quick (aka Jayne Ann Krentz.) Somehow, it’s the first time I have read this one. Just as I was finishing it, my library hold for Montana Sky (Nora Roberts) came in, so I reread that. And when my preorder of When a Dragon Comes Courting came in on Friday, I gulped it down in a single bite… er, I read it in one sitting. It’s lovely, but short even for a novella.

Listening to: I continued re-listening to The Vanished Days by Susanna Kearsley (read by Robert Ian MacKenzie.) In podcasts, I listened to a few Writing Excuses episodes from Season 10, as well as an episode each of Smart Podcast Trashy Books and Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me.

Watching: The Natural (Robert Redford movie), and episodes 4 and 5 of The Brokenwood Mysteries Season 10, which means we only have one episode left in the season.

Playing: Some of the NYT word games, mostly Wordle, Connections, Strands, and my favorite, the Spelling Bee. I also played Pokémon Go occasionally.

When a Dragon Comes Courting sounds really cute, but I hadn’t realized it was a novella. Actually, that makes me even more interested in it. I’ll have to pick up a copy.

I’ve been playing Pokemon Go off & on lately, too. It’s something I can do with my niece and nephew when we visit (or when we recently went on vacation together). If you want another friend on there, message me and I’ll send you my friend code. 🙂

I really liked it, but it’s a very short novella. More of a novelette, tbh. And I’d love to be friends on Pokemon Go. I’ll message you.
