June 15, 2025 Sunday Post 8

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.

The Past Week

In real life: We had a wonderful family reunion/vacation with Mr. Bookwyrm’s side of the family. Unlike previous years, not everyone was able to be there; his brother and sister-in-law had to leave Monday, and our niece and her husband and child left Sunday, the day after last weekend’s wedding. But most of Robin’s cousins were able to stay, including the newly-married couple, and my husband’s sister and brother-in-law as well. The ranch where we stayed for the reunion part of the week was in Texas Hill Country: beautiful outside and spacious and comfortable inside—although we did joke that Gaston must have done the decorating; the place was full of antlers, including glass-topped tables supported by clusters of antlers, and toilet-paper dispensers that were a single antler affixed to a board.

We all left on Thursday. Mr. Bookwyrm and I flew back to the East Coast., getting home literally at midnight. The Austin airport has a cool art installation entitled “Interimaginary Departures.” It includes a continuously-scrolling list of departures for imaginary places—everything from the Ankh-Morpork to Wonderland—plus steampunk-style ticket dispenser, and a display for the next two gate departures.

On Saturday, I went to my fiber guild’s monthly meeting, followed by a Worldwide Knit in Public Day event. Although the guild tries to avoid politics (since our members represent a spectrum of political views), I did wear my “Proud Mom” button that Robin made for me. I had hoped to put in at least a brief appearance at the No Kings protest, but by the time the WKIP event wrapped up, I was exhausted and much too hot. I came home and crashed, sleeping from mid-afternoon until mid-evening, waking only to eat dinner, and sleeping until late this morning. (I’m not sure if it was just tiredness from the week of extraverting followed by the heat and humidity of an outdoor event, or if I’m fighting something. I’m leaning toward the latter, given the headache I still have.)

5 Good Things:

  1. Our time with Mr. Bookwyrm’s family was wonderful.
  2. Our flight home was delayed, but only by about an hour and a half.
  3. I was approved for three of the NetGalley ARCs I had requested!
  4. Saturday’s fiber guild meeting and Worldwide Knit in Public event were fun.
  5. The WKIP event took place at the farmer’s market in town. I bought a lovely handmade project bag (proceeds donated to local pet rescues), and picked up a free kitchen-countertop compost bin.

I’m so glad you had the family time. I must be out of the loop because I saw nothing on the Knit in Public Day even though I have done it some years. It is much hotter here than Minnesota for outdoor events. Take care and get some rest now. I love your ARCs. I have 2 of them but haven’t started the Anna Huber series yet.

It was really good to see everyone! And such a lovely wedding last weekend. Our WKIP event was a little more low-key than we hoped, but we had about 8 or 9 members at the height of it, and several people stopped by to express interest in the guild, so I count that as a success.

I’ll be taking the rest of today easy, but I need to get back to work tomorrow.

If you love historical mysteries, I think you will love both of Huber’s series!

How lovely to have such a wonderful family reunion. I was in Austin, Texas last month for my son’s wedding at a ranch in the Texan countryside which was fabulous. The scenery is beautiful. And I missed that special Departures board – I’ll have to look out for it next time I visit:). I hope you enjoy the Rosalie Oaks series as much as I did – they are huge fun. I hope you recover soon and are having a good week.

Yay for the NetGalley approvals! I think there’s some kind of rule that ranches must be decorated with a heavy dose of antlers. It definitely sets a scene! So glad the family reunion went well and I love the departure signs at the airport. How fun!
