The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
The Past Week
In real life: We spent Sunday afternoon and evening at my sister’s house, playing games and watching Shrek, which I had never seen. We continued to plan our eventual move out here after Mr. Bookwyrm retires in a year or two. On New Year’s Eve (Wednesday), we had Chinese takeout at my sister’s, watched Shrek 2, and drank champagne when the ball dropped in New York, which was only 10:00 pm Mountain Time. On Thursday, we packed everything up for the 3-day drive back to the East Coast. We left on Friday, and should be home by late tonight.
In the coming year, beginning immediately, we’ll be working to downsize, sell our house, and find a house in New Mexico so we can be near Robin and my family. That’s going to take a lot of my time and energy in 2026 and probably the first half of 2027 as well. I plan to take a sabbatical from indexing to focus on everything we need to do this spring. I will probably also be blogging less often as well, though I hope to keep up with the Sunday Post at least.
5 Good Things:
- I have the best husband!
- Family time has been wonderful.
- I bought Winter Burrow (for Steam) and an inexpensive game controller with a gift card I received for Christmas. The game looks adorable, and I can’t wait to play it. (In my copious spare time lol.)
- We met with a realtor to get a sense of the market, and drove around looking at neighborhoods.
- The full moon was visible at sunset as we drove across the Texas panhandle; it was gorgeous.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished rereading Celia Lake’s Eclipse, then reread the two novella-length collections of related scenes; those in Tea & Meetings give glimpses of the two main characters from school-age through their 20s, and With All Due Speed is a collection of scenes in the year following Eclipse, from the start of the summer recess through the couple’s December wedding. After that, I reread Winter’s Charms, a trio of novellas in a single volume; two of the novellas are also related to Eclipse. Currently, I am rereading The Summer of the Great-Grandmother, the second of Madeleine L’Engle’s Crosswicks Journals.
Listening to: We are listening to American Gospel: God, the Founding Fathers, and the Making of a Nation by Jon Meacham on the drive home. Once we’re home, I’ll finish up Ruby Fever by Ilona Andrews.
Watching: Shrek and Shrek 2, neither of which I had ever seen. And we are slowly making our way through a rewatch of Star Trek: The Next Generation; we’re currently in season 6.
Playing: Wingspan, both in person and on my phone. Wyrmspan (somewhat like Wingspan, but with dragons!) and Project L, also in person. And my usuals: Wordle, Connections, Strands, Spelling Bee, and Sudoku (all from the NYT), and Pokémon Go.

Ten Years Ago I Was Reading…
I saw this idea on Lisa Loves Literature, who got it from Musings of a Bookish Kitty (who I also follow.) I thought I would give it a try! I published this review 10 years ago on January 4, 2016. (The book wasn’t particularly memorable, to be honest.)

Those moving plans are coming up quickly. It’s good you have already started the process of going through some things. Did you grow up in New Mexico or is that just where many of your family ended up? I’m glad you had a good time with family and have the best husband. I hope your trip back is safe and easy.

NM is just where a lot of my family ended up. My sister & BIL moved there for his job. My parents liked their town and moved there for retirement. Robin loves it there and has chosen to live there. So that’s where we’re going!

Whew! I don’t envy you the job of downsizing and selling but it will be so worth it when it’s done I think! Sounds like a happy New Year and I hope that has continued. Happy reading and have a great week!

I bought Winter Burrow also! But I haven’t picked it up to start playing yet. Just haven’t had time. I’m looking forward to it, though; it looks super cute!
