Sunday Post – 5/22/16

May 22, 2016 Sunday Post 24

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures – I mean books!

My Week

I’m at my college reunion and having a wonderful time! I’ve spent time with some good friends from my college years, just talking and catching up. About 10 of us got together and did a couple of pop-up madrigal concerts yesterday, and last night, I sang a Welsh folksong at the college coffeehouse. Talk about a throwback to old times! This afternoon, a bunch of us who were part of of the Gilbert & Sullivan Players will gather to sing pieces from our favorite G&S operettas. Music and theater were a huge part of my college experience, so it’s been really special to share that with old and dear friends (and some new acquaintances) again.

My supportive and ever-patient husband is here with me, despite not knowing most of the people. We’ll be driving home tomorrow—but not before we stop at Gibson’s, the local bakery-cum-general-store, for a couple dozen of their famous donuts! I’m convinced they make the best honey-whole-wheat cake donuts ever. Robin didn’t come to the reunion with us, but she made us promise to bring some donuts back for her.

It was a good week leading up to the reunion, too. The weather has been cool and rainy much of the week, which kept me from going for my walks, but Robin and I did some driving practice, drank a lot of tea (she’s been introducing me to all kinds of lovely blends), and spent time laughing and catching up. My cousin from Arizona called to let me know she was in Richmond for a training class, so we drove down to have dinner with her one night—an unexpected visit but a delightful one!

What I’m Reading/Watching

It hasn’t been a great week for reading, because of everything else that’s been going on. I read The Madness of Mercury (Connie di Marco, ARC) for the coming tour, and I reread The Gates of Sleep (Mercedes Lackey.) I need to get back to Wishing Day (Lauren Myracle, ARC), but I’m having trouble staying focused on it for some reason. And I’m afraid I couldn’t resist starting Once a Soldier as soon as I got the ARC!

In audio, I finished the Great Courses introductory course to Christianity and started on Great World Religions: Islam. Mr. Bookwyrm has also hooked me on the Imaginary Worlds podcast; I’ve listened to about 5 episodes with him, and I’m going to have to go back and pick up a bunch of the others. I haven’t watched any TV this week, though–I’ve been too busy with other things!

Many thanks to Kensington/Zebra and Del Rey!

Purchased for Kindle

The Warlock In Spite of Himself is a lot of fun; I have an old, beat-up paperback but it needs replacing. I haven’t read any of the other books yet.

Have a wonderful week, and happy reading!

Enjoy your college reunion- how fun! I’m not familiar with the Imaginary Worlds podcast, I’ll have to check that one out. I’d like to find a good genre podcast or two… I remember reading a Fatal Waltz and enjoying it (I think that’s Tasha Alexander #2?) and Eleanor & Park I was going to read – but never did. 🙁

Thank you, Greg. Fatal Waltz is the 3rd Tasha Alexander, which I didn’t have yet, so I was delighted when it went on sale. 🙂 Oh, and I think you would really enjoy the Imaginary Worlds podcast.

Oh, a college reunion – it sounds like fun and I’m glad you’re enjoying it. And good on hubby for being there as well. I’m sure others must have partners as well who don’t know anyone.

Hope the trip home (and visit to the bakery) go well!

It’s surprising how few spouses are here, unless they also went to the same college. My husband is pretty awesome!

You sound like you are having a lot of fun! Yummy Donuts too!
Hubby’s who keep you company are keepers, my husband did that with me in BEA. I was just happy to have him with me.

Have a safe trip home Lark! Hope your week is amazing!

I did get some good books this week! And the reunion has been wonderful. I’m exhausted, but having a great time.

It’s been really wonderful. Of course, not all my dearest friends are here, but a number of good friends were able to come.

Thank you, Laura! I had a wonderful time at my reunion, and we brought back more donuts than are good for us. And it was a good week for books, as you say!
