The Past Week
In real life: We made good progress on the house last Sunday and Monday as well as today. I got some stuff done during the week, but not as much as I should have. We sold the dining table and chairs. We emptied a wooden cabinet full of tupperware and picnic supplies, packing the best for the (theoretical) new house and ditching the rest. We ruthlessly pruned our makeshift pantry (a set of metal shelves in the basement), tossing or donating what we can’t use in the next two and a half months, and rehomed the remaining food into the empty wooden cabinet. The two metal shelves went off to Goodwill.
As the week went on, we donated a small pile of music to a local church, pruned some stuff I had saved for scrapbooks, packed up the accessories for both my spinning wheel and my rigid heddle loom, emptied the craft armoire and put it up for donation, and sorted through some more clothing stored in the basement (freeing a pair of clothing racks that also went to Goodwill!)
On Tuesday, I discovered the kitchen sink had developed a slow leak, so that meant clearing out the entire under-sink cupboard and disposing of old cleaning products. It needed to be done anyway, but we could have done without the leak! I called the plumber on Wednesday, but because it’s not an emergency, the earliest they can come is this coming Thursday (Sept. 17.)
I had a doctor’s appointment for my right knee, which has been burning when I kneel on it. The orthopedic doctor thinks it may be a meniscus tear, and suggests ice, ibuprofen a soft sleeve/brace, and giving it a couple of months to improve before we start thinking about an MRI.
It’s been a good week, but also a hard one. I’ll be honest, I’m having a rough time emotionally with all the chaos of packing and not knowing where things are, not to mention the uncertainty of everything related to this move. I do believe everything will work out in the long run, but not knowing when we’ll sell the house or find a new one, or how long we’ll be living out of suitcases with most of our stuff nearly 2000 miles away… I’m finding all of that unsettling. (Not to mention the uncertainties around Dad’s health.) And as excited as we are about by the prospect of living near Robin and our extended family, it is also hard to leave this place that has been home for so long. So many conflicting feelings.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching
Reading: I finished rereading Enter the Nightmare, book #18 in the Harmony series by Jayne Castle (aka Jayne Ann Krentz.) It’s an overdue ARC, which I reread so I can write a review… if I can find the time. Then I reread The Shop on Hidden Lane before starting my ARC of the next book in its series, The Book Hunter.
Listening to: Book #3 in Tamora Pierce’s Song of the Lioness quartet: The Woman Who Rides Like a Man. I have read the series before, but this is my first audio listen. I have also been listening to a lot of Celtic/Irish/Scottish/Welsh music to aid my packing.
Watching: A NOVA episode about the International Space Station (PBS), and a couple of episodes of Aerial Britain (Netflix.)

Ten Years Ago I Was Reading… (two-week version)
I saw this idea on Lisa Loves Literature, who got it from Musings of a Bookish Kitty (whom I also follow.) I didn’t publish any book reviews during this week 10 years ago, but I did publish a post on my love of Star Trek on its 50th anniversary.

Anne - Books of My Heart
I’m impressed with how much you’ve done with throwing or donating things. I find it hard to get rid of things I might need. I’ve enjoyed the chance to see and appreciate places in a different part of the country since I moved but I still miss things about where I lived before.
