The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
The Past Two Weeks
In real life: The week after Thanksgiving weekend, we focused on work (Mr. Bookwyrm), Christmas shopping and knitting (me) and getting ready for our trip (both of us.) I also took some books to the used bookstore and the library donation box, and dropped off five knitted hats for the local ecumenical homeless ministry. Our preparations were complicated by unexpected car trouble, requiring a tow to the dealership and a replacement of the thermo control valve.
We left on the 6th, arriving three very long days later in New Mexico. I didn’t have time to schedule my Sunday Post before we left, and I was too tired to work on it in the hotels at night, so I ended up skipping last Sunday’s post.
On the final day of the trip west, Dad called to tell me that my stepmom’s son, who was like a cousin to me, had passed away. On Tuesday, we piled back into the car with Robin for the 10-hour drive to Salt Lake City to stay with my dad and stepmom, a visit that we had planned before we learned of my stepbrother’s death. While we are here, we are providing logistical and emotional support: cooking, shopping, driving Dad & Stepmom to appointments, etc. Robin and I are both doing some Christmas knitting while we’re here, and I brought my travel wheel with me because Dad loves to watch me spin. We’ll be here through tonight, leaving tomorrow morning to return to New Mexico.
5 Good Things:
- I’m mostly finished with the Christmas shopping. I still have a fair bit of knitting to go, though!
- I am thoroughly enjoying the second trilogy in the Hidden Legacy series.
- After a week of not being able to download audiobooks from Hoopla, I finally had time to call my library and renew my card so I could download the third book in the series.
- Similarly, after a week of my Fitbit not talking to my phone app, customer service was able to get it working again.
- One of my cousins came over on Friday, and we had a few hours to talk and catch up.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: Between preparing for our trip, and the actual travel and family time, I have had very little time to read, especially with my eyes. I finished rereading A Presumption of Death by Dorothy Sayers & Jill Paton Walsh. I reread Wooing the Witch Queen by Stephanie Burgis, then read the sequel, Enchanting the Fae Queen, which is due out in January.
Listening to: I listened to Sapphire Flames and Emerald Blaze (Ilona Andrews), the first two books in the Catalina Baylor trilogy that is part of the Hidden Legacy series, then started the third book, Ruby Fever.
Watching: Before we left on our trip, we watched an episode or two of Star Trek: The Next Generation and a couple of nights of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Playing: Wingspan on my phone. Wordle, Connections, Strands, Spelling Bee, and Sudoku (all from the NYT). And Pokémon Go.

Anne - Books of My Heart
Well you ‘ve had some annoying issues, glad to hear they are resolved and you had a safe trip. Sorry to hear about your stepbrother. My knitting has really slacked off again so hopefully I’ll manage some the next 2 weeks.

I’m so sorry to hear about your stepbrother. Sounds like an exhausting trip but I’m so glad you were there to help. I know it made so much easier on your family. I just read the first book in the first Hidden Legacy trilogy and was surprised with how much I enjoyed it. I’m really looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I hope you’re having a good week and getting some time in for rest.
