August 2015 Challenge Update

September 1, 2015 Challenges 10

I’m doing well with some of my challenges and not so well with some others. Here’s where things stand as of August 31:

  23. Siren's Call by Jayne Castle

Basically done. Besides the 16 books I’ve reviewed, I’ve read another 15 books which I haven’t yet reviewed (or the review hasn’t posted yet.) By Sept. 4, the last day of the challenge, I need to put up 2-sentence quickie reviews on Goodreads for most of those, so I can officially count them toward the challenge. I’ll review some of them in full for the blog, too – but that’s a lot of review writing to squeeze in! However, I’m calling this challenge essentially met: I read 31 books, while my goal was only 20.

Invalid challenge name.

I’m behind. I’ve also read When a Scot Ties the Knot (Tessa Dare) but I still need to review it. I’m way behind on this challenge; my goal is 12, and I’ve read 5 and reviewed 4. I’ll need to work hard to catch up! Luckily, Avon will probably send me some yummy historicals in the next few months.

Invalid challenge name.

Nailed it! My goal was 5 books; I’ve read 6. I may add a few more before the end of the year.

Finished this one, too!  My goal was Level 4 – Sleuth Extradinaire – 20+ books. As of this month, I’m at 22 reviews. I’ve also read Threads of Evidence by Lea Wait, which I’ll be reviewing in September, and I have several other cozies and historical cozies to read this fall.

Fairytale Challenge 2015

Fairytale Challenge 2015

Host: The Daily Prophecy
Progress: 4/5 (80%)
1 January, 2015 — 31 December, 2015
Failed

80
  1. Beastkeeper by Cat Hellisen
  2. The Fairy Godmother by Mercedes Lackey
  3. Valiant by Sarah McGuire
  4. A Thousand Nights by E. K. Johnston

I’m close. My goal is Magic Mirror (5-9 books), and I’ve managed 4 so far. I have several fairy retellings to read this fall, including Spinning Starlight and A Thousand Nights, and I’ve already preordered Melissa Meyer’s Winter, so I’m pretty confident I’ll end the year closer to the upper end of my goal.

Blrgh. I am so behind, it’s pathetic. I thought this would be easy, but most of the books I’ve been reading don’t fall in any of the challenge categories. I still need to go through and check the reviews I’ve posted in the last few months to see if any of them qualify, though. You can see the categories here.

Top of the Hoard 2015

Top of the Hoard 2015

Host: Lark @ The Bookwyrm\'s Hoard
Progress: 2/20 (10%)
1 January, 2015 — 31 December, 2015
Failed

10
  1. The September Society by Charles Finch
  2. The Fleet Street Murders by Charles Finch

Aaaack! I wanted to read 20 books from my existing TBR pile/list. So far, I’ve only managed 2 reviews, although I’ve read 5 books in all. (Still unreviewed are An Uncivilized Yankee, Summers at Castle Auburn, and The Fleet Street Murders.) Either way you slice it, that puts me very behind.

2015 Reading Challenge

The Bookwyrm’s Hoard has
read 115 books toward her goal of 180 books.

I’m a smidgen behind. According to Goodreads, I’m 4 books behind. I thought I would more than catch up on vacation, but since the first half was very much a working vacation and the second half was split between moving Robin into her college apartment and going on a romantic getaway with Mr. Bookwyrm… well, I didn’t get much reading done.

Summary

The COYER Scavenger Hunt is almost over, and I can relax about Cruisin’ With the Cozies, Witches and Witchcraft, and the Fairytale Reading Challenge. I really need to concentrate on my personal Top of the Hoard Challenge, the Historical Romance Challenge, and probably the Popsugar Reading Challenge.

I think you’re doing very well with your challenges, Lark. I’m really behind with the Goodreads challenge (8 books, I think) 🙁 Good luck getting caught up with the rest of your challenges!

I had to set up two spreadsheets to keep track of them – one for all of them, and one just for the scavenger hunt. And I’m really bad about remembering to post links at the original challenge site. Speaking of which, I’d better get going on the remaining COYER titles – I just posted another review today but I haven’t linked it up yet.

Great job! You are one ambitious challenge-taker 🙂

The Coyer one is probably the best one to do in the bunch because you have to pick up e-books that you passed by, and maybe there was a reason you haven’t read it before, or maybe not. I like how you incorporate one title into several challenges; maybe you planned it that way.

Anyhow, good luck with completing some of them. You are already a winner.

Yeah, I kind of overdid it with the challenges this year! I might cut back a little next year. I do like it when a book fits more than one challenge, though!

Wow, you’re really doing well with your challenges! Don’t worry about the ones that aren’t going as great, they’re meant to be fun 😉
I’m also looking at the books you read and reviewed as inspiration for my challenges, thanks for that!
