Sunday Post – 2/01/15

February 1, 2015 Sunday Post 32

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures – I mean books!

My Week

For some reason, it’s been hard to stay focused on much of anything this week. No snow down here to speak of – we got about 3/4 of an inch – but my thoughts are with those of you in the Northeast. I read three and a half books for the COYER Scavenger Hunt this week, but only got one of the reviews written – Beastkeeper. Mr. Bookwyrm and I went out to dinner last Sunday night, and on Friday night we watched Guardians of the Galaxy  – it was fun, but it didn’t pull me in like most of the Avengers movies have. Next up on the movie schedule is Howl’s Moving Castle, which I’ve heard really good things about.

I read Splintered, but not Unhinged yet. And I read The Lost Prince, but I haven’t read the original Iron Fey series, so I thought I’d like to try it. Thanks for stopping by!

I’m glad you had power so you could stay warm! I don’t know when I’ll get to the Miss Buncle books. I’ll probably read them on a whim at some point, but they’re not in my top 60 or so that I hope to get to this year.

I must admit that while Splintered was really good, it was also a bit weird and creepy for me. Still, I want to know what happens, and there’s only one way to find out!

I know how you love them! When I saw the first three as a set for free, I figured I should grab them in hopes that I love the first one (that you gave me – thank you!) as much as you do. And thank you also (again) for the mug – it’s my absolute favorite of the 20 or so we own, because of the photo and also because it’s really big. (I love a big cup of tea and I cannot lie.) 🙂

We didn’t get snow all week, and then overnight we got dumped on. Blizzard time again. 🙂 Glad you escaped the worst of it. Beastkeeper looks nice, I’ll have to lookinto that one.

I liked Guardians the first time I saw it, was pleasantly surprised, but the next time I saw it (with friends who had not seen it yet) I liked it less so. definitely not quite in the Avengers vein.

I know I shouldn’t envy you folks the snow, as it’s quite inconvenient… but I wish we could have just one good-sized snowfall this winter!

Beastkeeper was really good; you should definitely take a look. As for Guardians – well, it was fun, but I doubt I’ll watch it again.

Thanks for stopping by and stay warm!

Oh the Miss Buncle books called my name but I resisted them. I kind of regret it now though. Not like I don’t have anything else to read! The Julia Quinn!! I’m so excited about the new one. I love her books and while this isn’t quite as good as the Bridgerton books I feel like each one is getting better and the characters are getting more interesting. I’m catching up on movie watching but I haven’t seen Guardians of the Galaxy yet. Howl’s Moving Castle sounds interesting as well. Have a great week!

Part of me thinks I shouldn’t have gotten the Miss Buncle books; I have so much else to read! But they did look fun. I agree with you on the current Julia Quinn series, but I always enjoy her – and I love Frances and her unicorn obsession. I dearly hope JQ writes a romance for her, too, when she grows up. Howl’s Moving Castle was good, though it departs from the book a fair bit. Beautiful animation, though, and good storytelling. I wish you a good week as well!

The book of Howl’s Moving Castle is similar to the movie in some ways, quite different in others. I really like the book, and enjoyed the movie despite the differences.

I just came across The Eterna Files today, and wondered if I should put them on my TBR list. But after reading your review, no, I definitely won’t. We have enough similarity in reading taste that the things that bothered you would irritate me as well. Thank you for the warning!

Well, compared to my part of Virginia, you can complain – we didn’t get much of anything but rain. 9 inches and still falling? Sounds lovely – but I’m sure it’s less so in reality than in theory. Dreaming Spies was good; the review went up today! Have a great week and enjoy that new baby, “Nonna”!

Oh, they would make good movies, wouldn’t they? The books are so visual, and the visuals are so… weird and creepy and compelling. Thanks for stopping by!
