The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
The Past Week
In real life: It has been hot and sticky all week, so I have been glad to stay indoors. We had in-person Tour de Fleece meetups at the fiber guild studio last Sunday and again yesterday, and a Zoom meetup on Tuesday evening. Yesterday, I also attended a recital by former students of my friend and music mentor, J., to thank her for the gift of music. Since several of the performers sang for many years in the community choirs I directed, it was a wonderful occasion in several ways. I caught up with a few of my former choristers, and talked with J.’s husband about how she is doing. (Her health has not been good.) J. herself was busy talking with everyone, and I didn’t want to monopolize her time; I spent a few minutes with her before making way for others. I plan to visit her some afternoon soon, when we can spend an hour or two chatting and catching up.
Other than that, I have been working and catching up on other stuff during the day, and spinning and knitting in the evenings while we watch TV. I have two indexes to finish up ASAP, so I probably won’t be posting anything to the blog this week, but we’ll see.
5 Good Things:
- Mr. Bookwyrm made salmon cakes this week, and they are delicious! He has the touch with salmon or crab cakes; they’re always moist and delicious. (Honestly, I could just name Mr. Bookwyrm himself as the first of my Good Things, always. I’m so blessed to love and be loved by him. Thirty-five years next month!)
- I’m loving the chance to get to know my sister spinners better as we spin and talk. I’m making new friends within the group. I’m an introvert, but I do enjoy the chance to get together with people that I share a passion with!
- The recital was lovely, from the music to the familiar faces, some of which I haven’t seen in years. And the final singer’s rendition of ABBA’s “Thank You For the Music” brought me to tears. J. is a gifted teacher and musician; I’m glad some of her students were able to say “thank you” in this way.
- Robin and I had several good conversations about books and films this week. I passed my geekiness/nerdiness on to my child (and then some!), and I love that we have a friendship as well as a parent-child relationship.
- Robin figured out how to play Wingspan together online, so we have a game running. We’re playing asynchronously for now, though we played our first game in real time.

Looking Ahead
As I said above, I have a lot of work to get through this week, so I probably won’t get any posts written, but if I do, it will be one of these:
- Top 10 Tuesday (very tentative)
- WIP Wednesday – a look at what I’m making (very tentative)
- News & Notes – 7/26/2025 (very tentative)
- Sunday Post – 7/27/2025
What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I have been in a bit of a reading slump, or more precisely, a series hangover. My brain seems to want to spend more time in Albion (Celia Lake’s magical Britain of the late 19th to mid 20th centuries), and I haven’t been able to settle in to any of the books I have started, even though I like what I’ve read so far. I started The Secret Christmas Library (Jenny Colgan; ARC), A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping (Sangu Mandanna; ARC), and Loving a Lost Lord (Mary Jo Putney; reread.) I finished the Putney romance and went on to reread the next three books in the series: Never Less Than a Lady, Nowhere Near Respectable, and No Longer a Gentleman. I’m still reading the two ARCs, but in short bursts.
Listening to: A Study in Death by Anna Lee Huber.
Watching: Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 5; The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Playing: Wordle, Connections, Strands, Spelling Bee, and Sudoku (all from the NYT.) Digital Wingspan. I’m getting quicker at Clues by Sam, a daily logic puzzle. (I don’t play it daily, though.) The first one took me 26 minutes to solve, but I’ve gotten quicker as I’ve gotten used to the logic used; it usually takes me between 7 and 15 minutes now, depending on the difficulty.

Purchased (Kindle, print, or audio)

Print: The Enchanted Greenhouse (My preorder of the hardcover arrived Wednesday.)

Kindle: The League of Gentlewomen Witches; Some Like It Scot; The Season of Dragons; The Good and the Green; The Queen & the Candle Maker; Spindle; Stargazy Pie; Chai and Cat-tales; Falling Awake; Spiderweb For Two: A Melendy Maze
This wasn’t a good week for keeping my Kindle purchases down. There was a big sale on indie cozy fantasy for 99 cents each, and I picked up a bunch of them, either because they sounded good or the author had been recommended to me. The first two and last two books were also on sale, but either they are not currently available through my library (the first two), or they are books I have read and wanted to own (the last two.)

Anne - Books of My Heart
Your good things seem very good to me. I missed you on the chat for One Fell Sweep. I hope you will make it to one of them. We are having fun.

I realized yesterday that I had completely spaced out. It was on my calendar, but somehow I misremembered and thought it was this coming Sunday. I’m kicking myself for missing it! Yes, hopefully I can make the next one. I’m really enjoying the books, though I’m glad we go back to Dina and Sean after book 4. I like Maud and Arland, and I’m sure I’ll enjoy her book, but it’s the inn and the character of Dina that really appeal to me the most.

Love all your good things! And Wingspan is a fun game. My sister and my nephew and I all like to play it. They’ve come out with a fish version of it called Finspan. Good luck with your indexing!

I didn’t know about Finspan, but there’s also a dragon version called Wyrmspan, and we wants it, we does! I wish they would turn that one into a digital version; my husband isn’t into games and I don’t have anyone to play against at home. But I’m super excited that Flamecraft (not by the Wingspan folks) is being adapted as a digital game by the same people who did such a terrific job on the digital Wingspan.

It is fun to have a friend as well as a parent/child relationship with your adult child! And the recital sounds so special. I have The Enchanted Greenhouse on my TBR. I think I’m going to buy the audio version. I hope you’re having a great week!

It really is. My mom and I have a good relationship, too, though we don’t talk about books and movies as much as Robin and I do. But we share a lot of tastes in common, from Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers to historical mysteries and historical romances.
I want to read The Enchanted Greenhouse, but my hardcover is so pretty I’m almost afraid to open it!
