July 27, 2025 Sunday Post 6

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.

The Past Week

In real life: I’ve been working hard all the past week, trying to finish up two indexes by the end of next week. One is mostly done, but there is a ways to go on the other. The final Tour de Fleece meetup is this afternoon, and I’m looking forward to it. Other than that, I’ll be working pretty much all day and well into the evenings this week.

5 Good Things:

  1. One of my indexes is nearly done; the other should be easier. (I hope!)
  2. Mr. Bookwyrm took care of dinner all week so I could get more work time.
  3. I managed to spin every day of Tour de Fleece (except two scheduled rest days), despite my workload…
  4. And I’m happy with what I have made so far.
  5. I’ve been working on eating healthier, and I’ve been able to sustain it pretty well for months now.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: My anxiety is up and I haven’t been sleeping well, so I have been plowing through rereads at night. I finished rereading Sometimes a Rogue (reviewed 2013), then went on to reread Not Quite a Wife (reviewed 2014), Once a Soldier (reviewed 2016), Once a Rebel, Once a Scoundrel, Once a Spy, Once Dishonored, and Once a Laird, all by Mary Jo Putney. Then I started The Murder of Thomas Cardwell (Stephanie Laurens), which, although I haven’t read it before, is predictable enough (and the author familiar enough) to soothe my anxiety. I want to get back to The Secret Christmas Library (Jenny Colgan; ARC) and A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping (Sangu Mandanna; ARC), but that may not happen until things ease up a little. My only reading time has been at night, and that’s when I most crave familiar books.

Listening to: I haven’t had time to listen to anything, but I hope to get back to A Study in Death by Anna Lee Huber, either this week or next..

Watching: Only Stephen Colbert’s monologues and “Meanwhile” segments this week, because I have needed the time to work.

Playing: Wordle, Connections, Strands, Spelling Bee, and Sudoku (all from the NYT.) Robin and I play Wingspan online together; we play asynchronously, so our games stretch into… well, this one will be at least a week at the current rate of play. I also play Wingspan on my own against the AI. Occasionally I play a new online game called Clues by Sam, which is a daily logic puzzle.

For Review or Consideration

Many thanks to Berkley for Witches of Dubious Origin and The Keeper of Magical Things! They both look and sound delightful; I’m looking forward to reading them.

Purchased (Kindle)

Kindle: Tea You at the Altar; Wooing the Witch Queen; After the Armistice Ball; The Murder of Thomas Cardwell; Crossroads and Other Tales of Valdemar

I had some credit that reduced the price of the new Stephanie Laurens mystery. The other books were all on sale.

Stay kind, hopeful, and steadfast… and may your books bring you joy this week!

I love when meals are taken care of and you don’t have to worry about that. Sorry to hear that you haven’t been sleeping well. I completely understand wanting to read familiar books for comfort, I’m also a huge fan of rereading comfort books. I hope you get more rest this week. ❤️
