August 3, 2025 Sunday Post 8

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.

The Past Week

In real life: The final Tour de Fleece meetup was great fun, even though fewer than half the participating spinners were able to come. We handed out prizes (by random draw; it’s not a competition), ate snacks, and chatted as we spun.

Mr. Bookwyrm and I (mostly Mr. Bookwyrm) moved my computer back into the study last weekend, so I finally have a proper office again. Yay!

I spent the rest of the week working all day and well into the evening. I finished one index draft and I’m closing on another. But it didn’t leave me much time for anything else. I did go into town Friday afternoon, for bloodwork, a quick stop at the library, and a few hours knitting with friends at the guild studio.

5 Good Things:

  1. I’m enjoying having an actual office/study again!
  2. My knitting is going well. I’m about halfway through my current shawlette, and I’m pleased with how it’s turning out.
  3. The heat dome finally broke. The high on Friday was only 73°F! We’ll be in the low 80s most of this coming week. That’s hot, but it’s better than 97°F.
  4. I’m planning a trip out to see both sets of my parents in September.
  5. I should be finished with these indexes in the coming week.

Looking Ahead

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I didn’t have much time to read this week. I finished The Murder of Thomas Cardwell (Stephanie Laurens), reread Rose Daughter (Robin McKinley) and started rereading The Adept (Katherine Kurtz.) I also continued reading A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping (Sangu Mandanna; ARC).

Listening to: I started Sweep of the Blade (Graphic Audio edition) by Ilona Andrews, for the Innkeeper read-along.

Watching: Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 5; Brokenwood, Series 11; Late Night with Stephen Colbert; and a nature documentary called Wild Wild East.

Playing: Wordle, Connections, Strands, Spelling Bee, and Sudoku (all from the NYT.) Wingspan, both online with Robin and solo. Occasionally Clues by Sam.

Things are really getting back in place for you! Yay Sweep of the Blade is awesome – I couldn’t stop and finished in one day. I’d love to have you chat with us if you can manage it. I’m thrilled with the broken heat dome. I’m still managing to knit a bit. I finished the sweater for the grand-nephew and just need to weave in the ends now. I’m starting one for his sister to be born in October next.

I love that you’re back to knitting! And I will do my best to make it to the chat this month. I’m enjoying Sweep of the Blade so far.

I remember enjoying Forever and a Day. I need to reread The Lucky Harbor series at some point. Yay for having your office back. So good to get your space back. I hope you’re having a great week and enjoying your reading!

Neither have I, but I loved them as a child. Well, the first two or three, anyway. When I was 9 or 10, I was so excited to visit Burton-on-the-Water, which has a real miniature village that I think the Borrowers end up living in at some point.
