I appear to be constitutionally incapable of limiting a Top Ten Tuesday list to ten titles, so here are twenty books I really want to read by authors I haven’t read before. I’ve listed them alphabetically by author’s last name, because how do you rank books you haven’t even read?

I’m so jealous of you having never read Jane Austen – I cried when I read my last one! You definitely need to read Pride and Prejudice before The Murder of Mr Wickham (there’s some real spoilers in there), and it’s even better if you’ve read all of the Austen novels, as lots of Austen characters pop up in there. Hope you enjoy them!

Thank you; that’s good advice! I’m familiar with the story of Pride and Prejudice as well as Sense and Sensibility (thank you, BBC!), but for some reason, I’ve never gotten around to reading the books. I’ll put off The Murder of Mr. Wickham until I do.

What a great list! I see so many favourites on here—especially Wells, Chakraborty, Kingfisher, and of course, Austen 💜 I also want to read Moniquill Blackgoose’s and Annalee Newitz’s books. I hope you enjoy all of these authors and books whenever you get to them!

I gather from friends who have read her books that some of her work may be a bit too close to horror (or at least body horror) for me, but Swordheart and the Paladin series have been recommended, as well as A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking.

I keep thinking about reading The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi. It looks so good. And I really enjoyed The Astral Library, though I’m not wild about that author’s historical fiction.

I am so excited for you! You get to experience T. Kingfisher and The Murderbot Diaries for the first time!
I do think that Swordheart would be a good starting point for T. Kingfisher. It’s one of the most pure fantasy (aka contains the among least horror) of her fantasy books. Though her YA fantasy books are also good picks. I’ve read Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking and Minor Mage, and both were good fantasy picks.
