Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/meme now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. The meme was originally the brainchild of The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is Ten Books I’d Like to Reread Soon.
Ten Books I Want to Reread Soon(ish)
If you follow my blog at all, you know that I am an inveterate rereader. In any given year or month, at least a third of the books I read are probably rereads, and some months, the proportion is much higher. In June, for instance, only three of the books I read or listened to were new to me, whilst 18 were rereads. (To be fair, I was sick for a week and recovering for another week, and I reread a single author’s books obsessively during those weeks, because I find them very comforting.)
That said, here are ten books and series I haven’t reread in a while (or ever), but would like to. I tried to choose books I haven’t reread in at least 5 years. Title links (if any) take you to my review.

Winterwood, by Jacey Bedford. Historical fantasy about a “’widowed, cross-dressing privateer captain and unregistered witch,’ her pirate crew, a werewolf, a ghost, and the Fae. Also a magical box, a wrong to right, and a ruthless, magic-wielding government spymaster.” I have only read this once, and really enjoyed it; I want to reread it to refresh my memory before I go on to the sequels. (reviewed in 2020)
The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett. A perennial favorite, but one I haven’t revisited except in memory in at least the last five years.
The Dean’s Watch, by Elizabeth Goudge. I have only read this once, in my early twenties. It was good, but did not become one of my favorites. I dearly love several of Goudge’s other books, and I’d like to revisit this one now that I’m old/mature enough to really appreciate it.

The Devil in Winter, by Lisa Kleypas. I just really love this villain-redeemed historical romance, despite a few problematic elements.
Anne of Green Gables, by L. M. Montgomery (and some of the sequels). I have loved these books since my teens, and I do try to revisit them every 5-10 years. (Back in my teens and 20s, it was more like every 1-3 years, but I have a lot more favorites to reread these days.) (reviewed in 2014)
the Felse Investigations series, by Ellis Peters (or at least most of them.) I did actually read one of these in 2017 or so (The Piper on the Mountain), but I haven’t revisited the series as a whole in quite a while.

The Lightning Thief and the whole Percy Jackson series, by Rick Riordan. This is such a delightful series! I have listened to several YA audiobooks this year, and I think I’d like to listen to these again.
Gaudy Night, by Dorothy Sayers. Actually, I’d like to reread the whole Lord Peter Wimsey series in order, but particularly the four original Harriet Vane books. Gaudy Night is, however, unquestionably one of Sayers’ best, as well as an affectionate portrait of her own college at Oxford.
The Daughter of Time, by Josephine Tey. A brilliant book that is simultaneously a mystery and an academic exploration of whether Richard III really did murder his young nephews, the “Princes in the Tower.” This is another of those books I have loved since my teens, and try to reread periodically… but it’s been a while. (Spoiler: Tey is convinced Richard was framed, posthumously. History is, after all, written by the winners, and Richard lost to the the Tudors.) (reviewed in 2016)

The Silmarillion, by J.R.R. Tolkien. I read this in college, at the height of my Tolkien obsession. At the time, I found it interesting but very dense. I’d like to revisit it, perhaps in audio with Andy Serkis’s narration.

yay Anne of Green Gables and The Secret Garden! I personally would re read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and the Handmaid’s Tale.

Fun list! I like the look of Winterwood. And this year I’d really love to reread Sense and Sensibility and Ready Player One. (Along with about 10 other books, but we’ll see how I do with those two.) 😀

I’d like to read RP1 for the first time, tbh! Winterwood was good; I really enjoyed it.

I do the same thing with the Anne books. 🙂

They are definitely worth rereading!

Wow, that is A LOT of rereading! I don’t reread very much, maybe 5-10 books a year (out of 200+). THE SECRET GARDEN is on my list this week. I *think* I read it as a kid, but I’m not sure. Either way, I’m hoping to read/reread it this year. Enjoy your rereads!
Happy TTT (on a Thursday)!

I hope you love The Secret Garden!
I learned to love rereading as a child, because I couldn’t get to the library on my own until I was about 11 or 12. I had to make do with rereading my own books. As someone who deals with anxiety on a regular basis, I also find it comforting to reread something familiar, where I can enjoy the story without worrying about what will happen next or how it will end. (I gather this is not uncommon among people with anxiety. We also tend to read the ending first, if we haven’t read the book before. Though I try to avoid doing that when it comes to mysteries, because it spoils the fun of figuring out whodunnit.)

The Secret Garden was my first read of the year and I thoroughly loved rereading it. I reread a lot of Montgomery’s books but it’s been awhile since I reread the first Anne. I should reread that and watch the movie (the Megan Follows version) soon. Devil in Winter is one of my favorite rereads. I’m not a big fan of redeeming villain but that is the exception. I loved seeing Sebastian in later books as well. Great list!
