Happy New Year! – Sunday Post, 1/01/2023

January 1, 2023 Sunday Post 7

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

Happy New Year! May 2023 bring you joy, health, wellbeing… and plenty of good books!

This Week

We had a lovely Christmas and a wonderful second week of vacation with Robin, my mom and stepdad, and my sister and her family. Now we are headed home, having entirely missed the massive winter storm. (We were just west of the polar vortex. There was one very windy night as the vortex pushed south, and a little snow this past Wednesday, but other than that, it was cold but fine.)

During the past week, we hung out a lot at my sister’s house. We played Wingspan, Flamecraft, Spice Road, and Pounce (a card game that is sort of like double solitaire, played at top speed.) We drank tea and nibbled Christmas cookies, ate dinner as an extended family every night, watched movies, talked and laughed, and had a wonderful time. And I knit up a few more hats for the women and children at the shelter, which I’ll set aside for next fall’s donation drive.

Once we get home, I will be very busy. (I’m trying not to think about just how busy.) I didn’t get much writing done in December, so I want to set and meet a reasonable daily target for writing in January. I also want to expand my indexing client base, so that means doing some targeted marketing. I need to find and schedule some short programs and maybe some workshops for the fiber guild. I want to prune and declutter the house, including the books, so that we can have the floors redone at some point this year. And I need to hire contractors for some much-needed work around the house, starting with the deck and the landscaping. Plus, I want to get back to exercising regularly after several months off. And there’s always knitting, spinning, and of course, reading and blogging! Heaven knows how I will fit it all in, but I’m going to try.

I probably won’t be able to work on posts until midweek, after we get home, and I’ve been prioritizing time with my family this week, so this week’s tentative posts may shift to the following week.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished rereading A Christmas Promise by Mary Balogh. Currently, I’m reading both The Time For Love (Stephanie Laurens) and An Enchantment of Ravens (Margaret Rogerson); the latter was a Christmas gift from my COYER Secret Santa, and so far it’s wonderful. (Thank you, Kai!) I paused my reading of Without a Summer over the holidays, but I plan to get back to it once we get home.

Listening to: The BBC World Service podcast of Susan Cooper’s The Dark is Rising. On our drive home, we will continue listening to The Two Towers by J. R. R. Tolkien, read by Andy Serkis. Once we’re home, I’ll get back to Season 3 of the Writing Excuses podcast.

Playing: an assortment of tabletop games, but mostly Flamecraft and Wingspan.

Watching: Glass Onion, Bullet Train, Ocean’s 8, Ocean’s 11, and The Company You Keep.

Sounds like a lovely week! Good luck with your goals for this year. I’m hoping to get back to exercising as well. I was doing pretty well earlier this year but kind of stopped. I’ve heard great things about Glass Onion and really should try it. I hope you have a wonderful week and happy New Year!

Happy New Year! Sounds like you had a lovely week with the family. So much on the agenda moving forward – I know how that is – but I’m sure you’ll find a way (even if it means accepting that some things just need to wait a bit… I’ve had to accept that quite a bit of late).

Hope you have an amazing week 🙂
