August 17, 2025 Sunday Post 6

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.

The Past Week

In real life: I attended a board meeting, and sent out a supplemental newsletter for my fiber arts guild. I scheduled an appointment for tomorrow to apply for my Real ID, and knocked a few other things off my to-do list. On Friday, I had a lesson to learn to weave on a rigid heddle loom. Saturday, I finally got around to measuring and cutting the drawer liner paper for a dresser. (I used a heavy wrapping paper, since the only paper drawer liners I could find were scented, and I didn’t want the plastic or stick-on liners.) I also did some more weaving; I’ve got about a foot and a half to two feet of a scarf so far. This afternoon is the read-along chat for Sweep of the Blade, which should be fun.

4 Good Things:

  1. Mr. Bookwyrm and I celebrated our anniversary.
  2. My weaving lesson went well, and I can’t wait to see what I can do with my 15″ rigid heddle loom.
  3. I’ve lost about 15 pounds since last summer, on my quest to lower my A1C and diabetes risk.
  4. Mr. Bookwyrm installed the armature and put up my second monitor. It’s vertical instead of horizontal, and big enough that I can enlarge a PDF to be able to see the text even when it’s in 8-point font. (For indexing the endnotes of scholarly books.)

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I read and reviewed Harmonic Pleasure, Celia Lake’s newest Albion book, then finished my reread of The Lodge of the Lynx (Katherine Kurtz.) I finally went back to A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping (Sangu Mandanna; ARC) and finished it. (It’s absolutely delightful; I just wasn’t in the right mood until this week.) I’ve been buddy-reading Half Magic (Edward Eager) with Nicole at Bookwyrm Knits; I finished it last night. Now I’m reading The Shop on Hidden Lane by Jayne Ann Krentz (ARC; note that the cover is my own placeholder because the official cover hasn’t been released yet.)

Listening to: I’ve been listening to The Regency Years: During Which Jane Austen Writes, Napoleon Fights, Byron Makes Love, and Britain Becomes Modern by Robert Morrison when I’m doing chores or driving; it’s for writing research. I’m also listening to Vanishing Fleece: Adventures in American Wool by Clara Parkes when I’m spinning or knitting; it’s the MAFA book group pick for October. (MAFA stands for Mid-Atlantic Fiber Association, an organization of fiber guilds and a few individual members. My local fiber guild is a member, which means I get to participate in MAFA’s programs, including their book group.)

Watching: Wild Wild East, a nature series about Canada’s eastern seaboard

Playing: Wordle, Connections, Strands, Spelling Bee, and Sudoku (all from the NYT.) Wingspan, both online with Robin and solo. Occasionally Clues by Sam.

Happy Anniversary! Also, yay for our Half Magic buddy read! I thought it was really interesting how I noticed some things more upon a reread (as an adult) then I paid attention to when I read it the first time as a kid.

I’m excited to see what you do with your weaving! I really enjoyed the scarf weaving class I took. But of course, now I need to actually continue doing things with my loom.

Happy Anniversary! And yay for the monitor. I love a new tool that just makes my job easier. Congrats on the weight loss! I’ve got that Jayne Ann Kretnz and am so looking forward to it. I hope you’ve had a great week!
