September 7, 2025 Sunday Post 6

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.

The Past Week

In real life: We spent a quiet Labor Day weekend at home. Mr. Bookwyrm has been working on my computer all week, doing some file cleanup, rearranging partitions, and making a backup so we can update the OS to Windows 11.

After some frustrating calls on Thursday, I was finally able to schedule our Covid boosters, which we got on Friday. During the week, I also got a haircut, scheduled several appointments, and caught up on some paperwork. I also tried to fit in some creative time everyday, whether spinning, weaving, or knitting. I wove the ends in on a baby blanket I made several years ago, and did the final finishing work (weaving ends, sewing on buttons) for a baby sweater and a doll sweater. The baby blanket and sweater are for our niece’s new baby; the doll sweater was originally for one of dolls but I finished it years too late, so I’ll give it to our 6 year-old great-niece.

Unfortunately, my plans to catalog my books were derailed after I developed what we think is poison ivy, possibly picked up from some surface in the house after my husband did some yard work few weekends ago. I ended up spending several days cleaning surfaces and doing laundry in hopes of eliminating the source. It continues to spread at the sites where it started, so I will try to get in to see a doctor this week.

5 Good Things:

  1. Our niece gave birth to a baby girl this week! The labor and delivery were difficult, and there were some complications, so we are deeply thankful that both mom and baby are doing well now.
  2. We got our Covid shots…
  3. And neither of us had the fever and chills we had with a few of the earlier versions, just tiredness, headache, and a sore arm. We both slept a lot on Saturday.
  4. I finished up several knitting projects that had been languishing for years.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I continued my binge re-read of Jayne Ann Krentz, rereading Sharp Edges (reviewed 2016); her two Whispering Springs books: Light in Shadow and Truth or Dare; and the Sons of Anson Salinas trilogy: When All the Girls Have Gone (reviewed 2016), Promise Not To Tell, and Untouchable (reviewed 2018.)

Listening to: The Regency Years: During Which Jane Austen Writes, Napoleon Fights, Byron Makes Love, and Britain Becomes Modern by Robert Morrison; it’s for writing research. I also have the hardcover so I can bookmark pages and make notes. For something lighter, I also started The Windsor Knot by SJ Bennett, which is a re-listen.

Watching: Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 5; Season 3 of A Discovery of Witches; and a nature documentary series called Wild Rockies.

Playing: Wordle, Connections, Strands, Spelling Bee, and Sudoku (all from the NYT.) Wingspan, both online with Robin and solo. Occasionally Clues by Sam.

Not good when your house gives you poison ivy! And I’m glad you got your covid boosters. I need to schedule my second Shingles shot this month. And then I need to figure out my flu shot and covid booster. Hope you have a great week. 😀

Ugh, no fun about the poison ivy. Sometimes I wish my house had a bigger yard, but at least with the small postage-stamp patio/yard I have, there’s no threat of accidental poison oak for me. (We have poison oak in my area instead of poison ivy. But not on my patio luckily!)

Hooray for the COVID shot and finished knitting projects! Those both sound like wonderful things to have gotten done, and I’m glad to hear there weren’t many side effects from the shot.

So far I don’t seem to have a reaction to poison ivy (which is good because I have reactions to everything else) but my husband had it recently and it looked incredibly painful. I hope you are feeling better. Looks like quite a lot of Jayne Ann Krentz reading! I really enjoy her books. Have a great week!

oof I hope your poison ivy clears up soon, I’ve never had it but sounds painful and hopefully the source of it is gone too! Aw I’m glad to hear that your niece and baby are okay now, thank goodness! 🧡

Hurray for finishing up a lot of old crafty projects, that must feel so good!
Wingspan is my favourite game, I love that you’ve been playing it too though I’ve never tried the online version and now I’m curious!
Also, I LOVED A Dark and Secret Magic last year!
