Easter Sunday Post – 4/05/2026

April 5, 2026 Sunday Post 5

Easter Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.

Happy Easter to those who celebrate it!

This has been a strange Easter season for us this year. Holy Week really caught me by surprise. Still, we’re following some of our Easter traditions this weekend: dyeing Easter eggs, making up baskets for each other, and having a scaled-down version of our usual Easter meal. We streamed the Easter service this morning from the church my parents and Robin attend, which will be our church community once we move (whenever that is.)

The Past Week

In real life: It was a week of appointments. So. Many. Appointments. Two medical, one insurance, and two home-improvement appointments, plus meeting with one or two people to sell or give away stuff we’re downsizing. And I scheduled yet more medical appointments for later in April and May.

When I wasn’t driving to, attending, or coming home from an appointment, or phoning or texting to set up new ones, I continued to work on cataloging my books (for future packing.) We also went through the Christmas and Easter stuff, pruning a little and packing up the rest to put in storage. I still need to finish repacking miniature houses that go in our “scene” (some ceramic, some resin, but most made by my uncle), but the tree ornaments, creche collection, and house decor are all done. Needless to say, I did very little reading or blogging this week!

A few weeks ago, I started using an app called Finch for self-care and goal tracking. It’s cute and fun, and I think it’s helping at least a little.

6 Good Things!

  1. The weather was beautiful for several days this week. And it’s Easter!
  2. The birds have finally discovered our feeder!
  3. I found a beautiful copy of Ellen Kushner’s Thomas the Rhymer: a first edition hardcover in very good condition, with the dust jacket, signed by the author.
  4. I made some progress on cataloging my books.
  5. I have 4 friends on Finch, thanks to one of the Discord servers I’m on.
  6. We are making (slow) progress on clearing stuff out of the basement. Most of our CDs (music and audiobooks) are packed up and put in storage, along with most of the Christmas stuff. As for stuff we’re not keeping, 3 more boxes of books went to the used bookstore & library booksale, 2 or 3 boxes of miscellaneous stuff went to the thrift store, and a box of old videotapes (taped from the TV) went into the trash.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: finished The Quiet Light (Casey Blair), the first book in the Sage’s Sanctuary series. After that, I started This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me by Ilona Andrews. It’s going to take me a while, because I have very little time to read. And I’m rereading The Liar (Nora Roberts) in the evenings before bed, because it’s familiar—easier to put down when I get sleepy!

Listening to: I finished relistening to The Shadowy Horses by Susanna Kearsley (reviewed in 2018). I haven’t started anything else yet—nothing feels quite right.

Watching: All Creatures Great and Small, Season 5. We only have one episode to go! I have loved this season; the actors and the storylines are terrific.

Playing: I haven’t had much time for reading, let alone games, but I have managed a few short sessions of Wingspan (phone app), plus an occasional NYT game: Wordle, Connections, Strands, Spelling Bee, or Sudoku.

Ten Years Ago I Was Reading…

I saw this idea on Lisa Loves Literature, who got it from Musings of a Bookish Kitty (who I also follow.) I thought I would give it a try! I published these reviews 10 years ago, between March 30 and April 5, 2016.

Stay kind, hopeful, and steadfast… and may your books bring you joy this week!

I LOVE Finch and use it for my daily to do lists. Every morning I sit down with my coffee and put it in all the things I have to do today and want to do. It’s helped so much! My friend code is: 18LF3EV3JN is you want to friend me. Why do all the appointments always seem to be at the same time. I’m in the same place and am exhausted! I hope you have a more relaxing week.

I’ll friend you! My birb is Merry, and I’m Lark on the Finch app, just like here — so you’ll know who’s friending you! Although I can’t seem to get your code to work, darn it.

You had so much to do! I’ve been staying at home for one type of projects and this week will pick up more tasks of a different sort. You are making changes but working at a steady pace which will be better than rushing it all at once.

What a find—Thomas the Rhymer in a signed first edition! That’s the kind of treasure that makes all the book-cataloging work worth it. I noticed you mentioned you have very little time to read right now; that’s exactly why I lean heavily on audiobooks audiobooks during busy seasons. Being able to ‘read’ while packing or driving to appointments is a lifesaver. Do you find you listen more than read when life gets this hectic
