The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
The Past Week
In real life: I was really tired the previous week, even well after the fever and aches went away. So on Monday, I saw a primary-care doctor in my doctor’s practice. (My regular doctor didn’t have any appointments free.) She ordered a few more blood tests, which I will get tomorrow. (One test needed to be 2 weeks after the first set.)
We didn’t do much for the 4th of July. I love my country deeply, but it’s hard to feel celebratory when I see how far she is falling from her ideals, and from the things that truly make her great: equality, compassion, diversity, freedom. We did catch about half of PBS’s broadcast of the fireworks on the National Mall, which were spectacular as always.
The news out of Texas this week was devastating. My heart goes out to all the parents and families who lost their children or other loved ones in the flash floods.
Tour de Fleece started on Saturday. We kicked it off with a meet-up at our Guild studio. 12 people showed up, including three who hadn’t signed up yet! We chatted and spun and admired each other’s wheels and ate cheese and crackers and had a great time. There were several people using drop spindles or supported spindles, and an assortment of spinning wheels. One woman brought a small great wheel, which is something I had never seen. I’ve seen the big ones, but this one was about 2/3 or even half the size of the big ones.
5 Good Things:
- I think—or at least I hope—I’m slowly getting my energy back. I needed a nap after Monday’s excursion to the doctor and Saturday’s Tour de Fleece event, but not on the days when I didn’t go anywhere.
- I was even able to get on the treadmill a few times this week.
- The Tour de Fleece kickoff event was a lot of fun!
- I’m grateful for the friendship and camaraderie of my fiber guild community.
- I fixed a delicious pork roast on Friday.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished A Tarnished Canvas by Anna Lee Huber (ARC.) Then I read Stiff News by Catherine Aird. I’m not sure if I’ve ever read it before, but if so, it was more than 10 years ago, and I had no memory of it. I also finished Dangerous Books for Girls: The Bad Reputation of Romance Novels Explained, by Maya Rodale, and reread Magician’s Hoard by Celia Lake. Currently, I’m rereading Carry On, also by Celia Lake.
Listening to: Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer. I’m about 80% of the way through.
Watching: Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 4 (finished) and 5 (started), and we started watching The Residence and Series 11 of Brokenwood.
Playing: Wordle, Connections, Strands, Spelling Bee, and Sudoku (all from the NYT.) Wingspan.

Kindle: The Curse of Penryth Hall; Dead Heading

Audiobooks: The British Are Coming: The War for America, Lexington to Princeton, 1775-1777; Undaunted Courage: Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Jefferson, and the Opening of the American West. (Both of these were gifts to my husband that we finally claimed this week. Since we share our audiobook accounts, I get to listen to them too.)

Anne - Books of My Heart
So good to finally get back into some activities. I’ve been knitting a bit more lately. Take care!

I find knitting and spinning very restorative, especially with as much bad news as there has been recently.

I’m not part of a guild to go to events with, but I have been enjoying spinning again for Tour de Fleece. I hope you get your energy levels back to normal soon!

I’m glad you’re spinning for TdF, even if you can’t do it with a group. And thank you; I hope my energy rebounds soon, too. It’s definitely better than it was a week ago, so I’m making progress.

I’m glad you’re feeling better and are hopefully getting your energy back. We saw the fireworks in person on the Washington Mall one year and it was absolutely amazing. I’d like to go back at some point. It looks like you’ve got some great books going. I really need to pick up the Anna Lee Huber book. I really enjoy that series.
