The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This week I’m also participating in The Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz, and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Marlene at Reading Reality.
The Past Week
In real life: It has been a horrible week in the wider world. I try to tread a fine line between trying to stay informed and engaged vs. spiraling down into anger and despair. I have to focus on the quiet moments, the small personal joys, and the people that keep me going: Mr. Bookwyrm, our families, my friends, moments of creativity or beauty, and the comfort of books.
We got home from our trip late Sunday night. I spent the week unpacking, doing laundry, working on the fiber guild newsletter, and decluttering/downsizing (a little.) I let the fiber guild leadership know that I need to step back from my responsibilities for newsletter and one of the committees due to personal responsibilities (my dad and stepmom’s health, and our upcoming retirement and move, though we don’t have a firm schedule for that yet… just sometime in the next year or two.) On Saturday, I attended the monthly fiber guild meeting—a chance to focus on people and things I enjoy.
5 Good Things:
- We got home safely, after a three-day, 1900-mile drive.
- I’m completely unpacked and all the laundry from the trip is done and put away. That’s a major win for me, in terms of focus. It took me three weeks to finish unpacking from a shorter trip last September. (Yeah, I probably have ADHD. Make that “almost definitely.”)
- I made quiche this week; it’s one of my favorite meals (both to cook and to eat.) We also enjoyed the turkey casserole I made with the Thanksgiving leftovers and froze before we left.
- We made a little progress on downsizing in the basement.
- Saturday’s guild meeting was a lot of fun. I saw some good friends, handed over three more hats for the homeless shelter, and afterward had a long book chat with a relatively new member who reads a lot of the same genres I do, especially fantasy.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: The Summer of the Great-Grandmother by Madeleine L’Engle.
Listening to: I finally finished Ruby Fever (Ilona Andrews.) I love this whole series, and only wish there were more. After that, I listened to The Attenbury Emeralds by Jill Paton Walsh and started The Late Scholar; both books continue Dorothy Sayers’ Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries.
Watching: Star Trek: The Next Generation, season 6 (a rewatch.)
Playing: Wingspan (phone app), Winter Burrow (Steam), and Pokémon Go. And my dailies: Wordle, Connections, Strands, Spelling Bee, and Sudoku (all from the NYT.)

Ten Years Ago I Was Reading…
I saw this idea on Lisa Loves Literature, who got it from Musings of a Bookish Kitty (who I also follow.) I thought I would give it a try! I published these reviews 10 years ago between Jan. 5 and January 11, 2015.

Glad you got to enjoy time with the fiber guild folks. The world is not good out there. Good luck on your downsizing. It’s so much work.

It’s fun to be at your place in life where you can see that retirement is just a few more steps down the road. I’m enjoying this time, post-work, so much.
Last week was what people warned me was coming; I never thought we would go this way again in the world. I shall continue to speak up for education and science and human beings and nature to my dying breath.

Yay for making progress on downsizing. That can be an overwhelming task. My husband is an unpack immediately otherwise I would just live out of suitcases because I would never unpack. It’s gotten to be a habit for me but it’s still no fun. I remember being so excited about The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend and then being a bit disappointed. Have a great week!

I have to put my mind towards downsizing. We have about seven years until we will move as well. Yes, world news makes me physically ill. I stay informed but limit my daily amounts and focus on family, books, etc. I spend one morning making phone calls and doing what I can to help. I am glad you have your guild & family.

I’m glad you made it home safely. I downsized last year and probably need to do it again. I hope you’re having a good week!
